Fresh Music Friday

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

‘Rain on Me’ – Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande

Get ready for a fun throwback to a more disco vibe with Lady Gaga featuring Ariana Grande. While Gaga is known for a flare, Ariana comes to perfectly accompany the vocals. The next upbeat dance tune to wear yourself out, just picture those old school home video workouts. You know the ones, with the neon colors and crazy hair? ‘Rain On Me’ is a great time with surges of energy coupled with reflections of lyrics at a slower beat. Like the burst of emotion after a good cry.

Whether you’re working out or just dancing around your room you’re bound to find the energy to make it through your hardships and downs. The art is positively punk meets the 80s. The lyrics perfectly depict pushing through anything with call and response between Gaga and Grande. No one wants to fall into misery and suffer but by damn if it does happen we’re going headlong into the downpour. You’ll catch us at Fresh Music Friday dancing in the rain to this!

D-2 – Agust D

Agust D has returned! Four years since his first mixtape dropped, Agust D, aka Suga of BTS, surprised fans by dropping his mixtape D-2. While ARMY suspected its release, fans were still not prepared for the ten tracks and MV. The mixtape also includes features from his fellow member RM, singer MAX and Kim Jong Wan of NELL.

Agust D does not hold back in this mixtape. Each song is filled with meaning and emotion. He plays with different music styles like in the track ‘Daechwita,’ where traditional Korean music (usually consisting of military music played on percussion and wind instruments) meets trap, and ‘Dear my friend,’ one of the more somber tracks, having rock tones. We also have MAX’s pop vocals acting as a beautiful compliment to the hip hop and rock sounds in ‘Burn It.’ The song ‘What do you think?’ has quickly become a favorite among fans for the way Agust D lets it all out. He is brutally honest and doesn’t sugarcoat his feelings towards those who have tried to disrespect or take advantage of what he and the rest of BTS have accomplished so far- it is refreshing to hear. Currently taking up almost all the spots on the US iTunes Top Ten, D-2 is making its impact, and you will not be disappointed when you listen.

Notes on a Conditional Form – The 1975

You might love them or hate them, but there’s no denying that The 1975 are killing the game right now. Their latest album Notes On A Conditional Form is just another example of this. The record starts off with the band’s newest rendition of ‘The 1975’ with Greta Thunberg and immediately after ‘People’ kicks off with a bang. While a more heavy rock track is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, we can’t help but have a little mosh whenever we listen to it!

Some of our other favorite tracks include ‘Roadkill’ for it’s easter egg lyrics and ‘Shiny Collarbone’ for the sampled club bangers dotted throughout. But by an absolute mile our favorite track has to be ‘If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)’. We all loved it live and we still love it now! So if you’re looking for a full-on album listening experience, then this is definitely THE album to be blasting through your headphones this weekend.

The Dream Chapter: ETERNITY – Tomorrow X Together

Tomorrow X Together has returned to the stage with their most mature title track, ‘Can’t You See Me?’! The trendy pop track features the spine-chilling vocals of the members as they face the reality of growing through troubles. The music video for the track showcases innocent but creepy visuals of the group engaging in increasingly devastating mischief. The mini-album also includes tracks ‘Drama’, an upbeat pop track, ‘Fairy of Shampoo’, a 90’s song remake that features rap making by Yeonjun, ‘Maze In The Mirror’, a song originally produced by Beomgyu and polished along with the other members, ‘PUMA’, an urban hip hop track, and ‘Eternally’, a dream pop track that twists into a startling alternative R&B beat.

Now that The Dream Chapter closes on such a dark and self-reflecting note, we can only wait and see what awaits us in the near future – and we at Fresh Music Friday cannot wait!

‘Until We Meet Again’ – Nick Jonas

If you caught the finale of The Voice, you probably already heard Nick Jonas performing this track. If not, you should listen to it immediately. ‘Until We Meet Again’ is a testament to how we’re all feeling right now, separated from our friends and family, waiting for things to go back to normal so we can see them again. The slow, sentimental ballad fits Nick’s iconic falsetto and vocals perfectly, making it an uplifting track to listen to if you’re missing someone right now. So give it a listen, maybe share it with a loved one, and enjoy the vibes.

‘In Your Eyes (Remix)’ – The Weeknd ft Doja Cat

We’re well aware here how phenomenal of an artist The Weeknd is—his style- flawless- his voice- heavenly. Not much could make his music better, but now with the release of ‘In Your Eyes’ featuring Doja Cat, it has made us change our tune. Why? Well, listen to the song, and you’ll get it. But we can tell you that Doja Cat is the perfect pick for this song because her voice is so angelic as well. Using her skills to drift between rapping and singing, this is an opportunity of a lifetime with such a collaboration. We’re digging this one, and we know you will too!

NCT 127 returns with their intense repackage album, NCT #127 Neo Zone: The Final Round, with a changed up style and 4 new tracks. The album launches into it’s fascinating new title, ‘Punch,’ who’s unpredictable and unique structure prepares us for the emotional roller-coaster this album will take us on! Their new tracks, ‘Nonstop,’ and ‘Prelude’ give us a taste of NCT’s unusual, experimental side. NCTzen are also blessed with beautiful vocals and harmonies in the new ballad, ‘Make Your Day’. This comeback has certainly been their strongest so far!

‘Together’ – Sia

Sia has dropped her latest belter track ‘Together’ and we’ve been listening to it on repeat ever since! Full of bright uplifting lyrics and melodies it’s a tune all about positivity which is definitely a mood we can all get on board with here. The music video itself features Maddie Zeigler, a long time collaborator of Sia’s, and the party vibes of the video’s dancers along with the rainbow theme around the room reflect the track’s personality perfectly. This is definitely a tune we’ll all be cranking up on our speakers all summer long!

New music from Carly Rae Jepsen?! Yes, please! She just made Fresh Music Friday that much sweeter! She has dropped Dedicated Side B and we are living for it. ‘Sadder Badder Cooler’ – Tove Lo

When we drop the extra baggage the thing to do is reinvent yourself. Whether it’s a new wardrobe or a new hairdo. That’s just what Tove Lo is advocating for in her new song ‘Sadder Badder Cooler’. With electric zing added we get a dramatic ballad all centered on individual growth. If anything we’re better off then we were before the sad saps we dropped. “Done with my pride, I don’t mind I just wanna be dramatic tonight And make the song about me”. We may be worse for wear but we’re still here. ‘Sadder Badder Cooler’ is out now and you better get a few listens in. Doctors order! (Okay for legal reasons we’re not doctors but you get what we’re saying!)

‘Power’ – Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding has always owned a piece of our hearts, and with this new single drop, she might just own the entire thing. ‘Power’ is a straight bop, and we are blown away by it, as we usually are with her music. From its ear-worm melodies to Ellie’s ethereal vocals, this song showcases that Ellie is in fact the epitome talent. We’ve already added it to our playlists, and now it’s your turn. No time for thinking, get ready to have this track playing everywhere you go!

‘Don’t Wanna’ – Haim

These girls are killing it! Even after 13 years of Haim, we still cannot get enough. ‘Don’t Wanna’ is a fierce, sexy track and we can’t seem to get it out of our heads! It’s the 6th track the band has shares for their upcoming album, Women In Music Pt. III, which will be released on June 26. If this song is any indication for what we can expect from the album, then our wigs are going to be snatched!

Mensajes De Voz – Alaina Castillo

Did Alaina Castillo deliver or did she deliver?! Her new EP Mensajes De Voz is the Spanish version of her highly successful EP, The Voicenotes. About the EP Alaina says, “I wanted to be completely vulnerable on this EP because I sing about the things in the past that have caused me pain and I wanted people to relate to those feelings. I wanted to sing in Spanish and English because music is the one thing that can help us get by…” and we agree with her 100%! We highly recommend adding the EP to your playlists, Spanish and English so you can get the full experience, and we know that her music is going to help you get through this crazy thing called life.

Dissimulation – KSI

Dissimulation dropped today and we’re thriving. With features from some incredible artists including Offset, Rick Ross, Lil Pump, Lil Baby, and more this collection of tracks from KSI including the songs he has no features show why he has seamlessly moved into the mainstream music scene. No small feat for a YouTuber who was going to be performing at huge festivals this year before the pandemic reared its ugly head. Highlights include ‘Cap,” Poppin’, and ‘Wake Up Call’ but we can safely say this album has NO fillers its jam-packed with bops and beats that should be on everyone’s summer playlists. After the release of ‘Down Like That’ and ‘Houdini’ we didn’t think JJ could do any better and he proved us wrong. And we’re definitely not mad about it!

‘Friends’ – Jesse McCartney

As longtime stans of Jesse McCartney, we at Fresh Music Friday have yet to be disappointed by any of his work, and ‘Friends’ just makes our love and adoration for him grow even more. It’s vibrant, breezy, and perfect for ringing in the Summer months. The track is perfect if you need a little pick-me-up! It’s got us feeling extra grateful for our friends that stick by us through everything including this quarantine. This song is definitely getting added to our Summer playlist and probably every other season, too!
