In Every Generation There Is A Podcast, Buffering The Vampire Slayer Alone Will Stand Against Poor Content.

Do you miss Buffy The Vampire Slayer as much as we do? Have you rewatched the entire series oodles of times? Well, in that case, we’ve got the perfect podcast for you! If you haven’t heard about it yet, then come right along. Kristin Russo and Jenny Owen Youngs have been hosting Buffering The Vampire Slayer since 2016 and are now in the show’s sixth season. The hosts usually write and record an original song for each episode, which recaps the episode they will talk about. This makes for a super fun concept. The podcast is now, five years later, critically acclaimed and has just dropped its biggest episode yet!

You guessed it! It is no other episode than season six episode seven: Once More With Once More, With Feeling. A fantastic musical episode, which still leaves fans in just as much awe as in 2001. We, here at The Honey POP, in true Buffy fan fashion, love this episode to bits and were so excited to hear Kristen and Jenny’s thoughts on it! The duo did not let fans down! With a runtime of 2h 11 min, the hosts are taking listeners on a real musical journey. The entire episode includes 17 original songs written by Jenny and Kristen. Listeners will also get to hear various musical guests, including Gaby Dunn, LaToya Ferguson, Joanna Robinson, and Ben Thornewill. Now, if that isn’t a line up to get excited about! You can listen to the episode and entire podcast here.

The Buffy episode Once More With Once More, With Feeling, aside from being a major inflection point in the show’s narrative arc, was a groundbreaking moment for a scripted TV series. In a time before streaming, where seasons typically ran 20+ episodes, the production costs and demands for the episode were unprecedented. Storytelling in a musical format was similarly far outside the norm for live-action TV. Years later, we now look forward to each series’ musical episode like Scrubs or Grey’s Anatomy, which took on similar episodes. These episodes are also dearly loved by fans!

We loved that the hosts went with a musical recap of the episode. It is the only way to do a groundbreaking episode like this justice. Also, we are glad that the initial commitment to three songs grew until they ended up settling on 17 songs to match with the original soundtrack. So many glorious songs to enjoy! In Once More With Once More, With Feeling, Jenny and Kristin put their customary witty commentary on the show to tune. And the outcome has fans and critics raving!

The song, ‘You Can Always Get Divorced,’ has to be our favorite, as it demonstrates the smart and charismatic banter that has won Buffering The Vampire Slayer so many loyal listeners. You can stream it and the entire soundtrack here. Overall, this episode was absolutely peak entertainment, and we can’t wait to hear what is coming next!
