Friday is a big day this week for anyone who loves short films. Finally, after what feels like forever, Disney’s Launchpad will be available for streaming on May 28th. And as a final tease of what we’re in for in a few days, Disney released trailers for all six shorts. If you thought we were hyped with the synopsis of each short, wait until you see us after the trailers.
American Eid, Written and Directed by Aqsa Altaf
We were happy to see a story focused on Muslim characters. Then we learned the main character is a little girl who wants to make a difference in the way her public school sees a Muslim holiday, and we were sold!
Dinner Is Served, Directed by Hao Zheng, Written by G. Wilson & Hao Zheng
We love some good Asian representation! And there’s no doubt the story of this Chinese student trying out for a position no other international student has ever gotten in this US school will resonate with many people.
Growing Fangs, Written and Directed by Ann Marie Pace
Just when we think vampire stories can’t go in a new direction, here comes Growing Fangs to prove us wrong. And you want to know the best part? This is a completely relatable story even though its protagonist is a literal half-vampire because we all remember how awkward teenage years can be, right?
Let’s Be Tigers, Written and Directed by Stefanie Abel Horowitz
Did anyone else’s heart just get really warm and fuzzy watching this? This babysitter and 4-year-old baby duo is the cutest thing we’ve seen all week, and we can’t wait to see them together for the whole short.
The Last Of The Chupacabras, Written and Directed by Jessica Mendez Siqueiros
We don’t know about you, but we’ve seen grandmas adopt a lot of different pets, however, this is the first time we see one choose a Chupacabra as her companion. And we love it! Look at how cute these two are together!
The Little Prince(ss), Written and Directed by Moxie Peng
We’re super excited for The Little Prince(ss) because, by the looks of it, it’ll be all about something we love: getting rid of old-fashioned concepts about what it means to be a boy or a girl. Adorable, very fitting for our time, and definitely something everyone needs to discuss more.
In case it still needs saying, we can’t wait for these shorts to get here! And by the way, here’s your reminder that their applications for the second season of Launchpad are still open, so go check it out!
Will you be watching Disney’s Launchpad this Friday? Tell us in the comments, or tweet us @TheHoneyPOP! We’d love to hear your thoughts!
