Lauren Spencer-Smith is taking the musical world by storm, and with songwriting like what is displayed on ‘Flowers,’ there is no question as to why. ‘Flowers’ has been out for five days, and the track is already among our most played of the entire year – it’s safe to say we are obsessed.

When we find a song that we can have a good cry to, we attach ourselves immediately. There is an unmatched feeling that comes with realizing an artist was able to put your exact feelings into words. When we heard the lyrics to ‘Flowers,’ it was clear that Lauren Spencer-Smith had done just that.
It’s only right that we break down the three lines in ‘Flowers’ that hit us the hardest, so let’s have a good sob session and praise what an incredible songstress Lauren is together!

“Young people fall for the wrong people, guess my one was you”
As soon as we heard this line we pictured a person from our past, maybe you did too. That’s the beauty of an artist like Lauren Spencer-Smith: she lays it all out and puts the things that we don’t know how to say into words. The ability to admit that someone you fell for is wrong for you is tough, but a necessary part of moving on.
“The version of you in my head now I know wasn’t true”
When we love someone, we often build them up in our heads, especially when they only show us glimpses of who they really are. That is how we rationalize loving someone who mistreats us because we’ve created a secondary version of them. It’s the sad but true reality, and Lauren wasn’t afraid to point that out.
“Who are you to tell me that I can’t be heartbroken?”
It’s the ultimate paradox when the person who breaks your heart tries to tell you how to react to their actions. So many of us have dealt with people who’ve put us in that position of almost feeling guilty for how we handle heartbreak, and Lauren is gonna help so many people feel less alone in that with this lyric.
