Aly & AJ Are Opening Ben Platt’s Reverie Tour

Likewise to how most viral-worthy pieces of news start these days, it all began with our iconic Y2K sister duo (no, it’s not the Olsen twins) cramming into a TikTok video alongside Ben Platt. With a Michalka sister perched on either of his shoulders (points if you got that right and not just by glancing at the article’s title), they use the original sound called ‘Hamilton Daddy’s Calling’ to ponder on the best way to announce they’re all going on tour, all the while by inadvertently doing so. It’s for Ben’s North American Reverie tour with Aly & AJ as his opening act, starting on September 3 and ending on October 7.

With a plethora of snazzy venue backdrops, including the Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden, the sisters said in a press release:

We are so excited to join Ben on tour! Not only do we admire him as an artist, but he’s an incredible human being and has openly supported our music for some time now. There’s gonna be a lot of love coming from the stage each night.

Now, besides ‘Potential Breakup Song Explicit’ pulling in the most money when it comes to their set’s encore bet we couldn’t help but nudge both the 2005 day ones and those who are just looking for something to do in their hometown towards three staple Aly & AJ earworms — and, well, the sisters themselves, because if you’re reading this pretty please include them!

No, it’s not a silly, educational nursery rhyme to help us check if our bodies are still up for the rest of the concert if we’ve luckily bought pit standing, but rather an emotional slow ballad about that unsettling wash of realization that one’s relationship has fully crumbled. It’s so, so beautiful and phone battery sway worthy that there are such captivating lyrics as “I’m staring at a stranger / That’s a secret I’ve been keeping.”

‘Slow Dancing’

So everyone got the same inclination to gather a group of friends together for a road trip to a nearby farm stay after that music video, which saw the cotton candy skyline mingle with the breeze beating down on Aly’s face as she did exactly that? Of course, this tune’s locked down into their setlist, but it also helps quell every ounce of anxiety with its tiptoeing lullaby towards a solo guitar hook.

‘Symptom of Your Touch’

Aly & AJ don’t solely have songs to help trigger the call to your therapist. Sometimes they want to go back to that step later on, and for now focus on hooking up with their exes all while listening to a three-step drumline, that is!
