After releasing her flawless SAWAYAMA album in 2020 and a recent collaboration with Pabllo Vitar, Rina Sawayama is finally back with her new single ‘This Hell’ and we’ve had it on a loop since its release.
Seriously, if you haven’t listened to it yet then you’re really missing out and should take this as your sign to stream her entire discography. Let’s go!
Combining country and pop, ‘This Hell’ is the first single from Rina Sawayama’s upcoming sophomore album, Hold the Girl, set to be released on September 2nd. The song utilizes Rina’s classic edgier pop sound yet still manages to feel wholly fresh and exciting, being perfectly described by Rina as a “euphoric” and “tongue-in-cheek.” It also makes reference to a host of famous female icons such as Paris Hilton, Princess Diana, and Whitney Huston. Honestly, get ready to whip out your cowboy boots and head to the club because this song is going to be a night-out anthem!
Rina has, however, said that while the song is a fun pop banger, at its core is a message of comfort and love directed towards the LGBTQ+ community. As well as being LGBTQ+ herself, Rina has always been vocal about her support of the community, stating “when the world tells us we don’t deserve love and protection, we have no choice but to give love and protection to each other.”
After a successful set at Coachella and two sold-out tours, Rina will be embarking on the Hold the Girl Tour beginning this October in Glasgow. With presale tickets available from May 25th, this tour is bound to be another dazzling spectacle from Rina. However, Rina is also playing a series of other gigs at various different international locations. From Barcelona to Poland, and Tokyo to Glasgow, check it out and see if Rina is coming to a city near you, here!
While you’re waiting for the presale, however, you can catch Rina Sawayama performing her new single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 19th. We know we’ll definitely be tuning in!
