For those of us living in the U.S., we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month every May. For those of us at THP, we love seeing increasingly diverse representation in the music industry. And thanks to the global audiences of K-Pop groups and TikTok videos, there have been many more Asian artists breaking out in recent years.

Any time is a good time to celebrate underrepresented artists making waves in the American music industry and beyond. We’d love to introduce you to these four rising Asian artists!
Yumi Nu
We’re starting this list with Yumi Nu, an alt-R&B artist who has just dropped her official debut project with Hajime (meaning “beginning” in Japanese). This EP features six beautifully written songs that each tells a story of Yumi’s personal growth and identity leading up to now. Her voice is silky smooth and so soothing, and we’ll definitely go to bed vibing to her songs! If we had to pick, our favorite tracks from Hajime would be ‘Bouquets,’ ‘Sin,’ and ‘Pots And Pans.’

Sơn Tùng M-TP
The next artist we want to highlight hails from Vietnam, and his name is Sơn Tùng M-TP. He has just released his first-ever English song, ‘There’s No One At All,’ written and produced entirely by himself! We don’t know about you, but that’s an incredible feat in our book! Sơn Tùng M-TP’s latest single hits really close to home. He gets vulnerable about the loneliness everyone feels, even those who appear strong. We can’t wait to hear more of his new songs, whether they’re in English or Vietnamese!

MILLI
Southeast Asians represent! You may have heard of Thai artist MILLI on your TikTok FYP or during 88rising’s Coachella set. MILLI performed her latest track, ‘Mango Sticky Rice,’ at this year’s Coachella, where she even ate mango sticky rice in between verses. Talk about an iconic performance! ‘Mango Sticky Rice’ is not only a classic Thai dessert, but it’s also an absolute banger, with a killer beat and MILLI’s unique rap style.

Prateek Kuhad
Last but not least, we want to talk about Prateek Kuhad, an Indian artist who has released his third studio album, The Way That Lovers Do. This album features 11 tracks about the love and pain we may feel in relationships and friendships. His lyrics are relatable and so genuine like we’re having a deep conversation with him through our headphones. And his songs make us feel like we’re lazing around on a warm afternoon. It’s called self-care, people.

Prateek kicks off his North American headline tour next month to celebrate his new album release. Get your tix right here!
