An Open Letter to 5SOS: Thank You!

An Open Letter to 5SOS: Thank You!

As you all may or may not know, 5SOS had the last of three Texas shows in The Woodlands on Sunday, June 26th. Unfortunately, in the middle of their set, Ashton had a medical emergency and they had to cancel the rest of the show for him to receive medical treatment.

As upsetting and heartbreaking as it was for the fans who had never seen them perform live, for those who had traveled a long distance, or even for those who had just been waiting for this tour to finally come around after being rescheduled, this was a necessary thing that 5SOS needed to do: for their health.

5SOS is one of those bands that puts their all into everything they do. Having personally seen them perform multiple times, there has never been a show where I have left disappointed, not even while walking out of that venue on Sunday.

So I want to take this time to talk directly to Ashton, Calum, Luke, and Michael and say: Thank you. Thank you for putting your all into everything you do. Thank you for all the sacrifices you make creating music and putting on these incredible tours for us to enjoy. And thank you for caring about us (the fans) so much.

We all know that the medical emergency that happened on Sunday only came about because you were giving 200% (like Ashton and the band always do) in the brutal Texas heat. Although the night ended abruptly, we can never ever fault you for taking care of yourself and getting yourself the necessary medical treatment needed.

I was attending the show as a photojournalist and also as a fan and what happened during the show put into perspective just how special these moments really are. Being able to capture my favorite band doing what they love and what we love watching them do is unmatched. And it’s not just for me, it’s for the entire fanbase.

For the fans who haven’t seen them live and for those who have – these photos have captured a special moment in the history of 5SOS for us all to appreciate. It’s something that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. And hopefully, these photos will mark a moment in time for the band where they were one with the kids who love them so unconditionally.

If you’ve read this far, thank you again. We all hope and pray for a speedy recovery for Ashton and that you all are feeling the love and support of your fans. You always have our backs and we will always have yours. We’re a team. 🙂
