Sad Summer Festival Scorches Through Houston

Y’all know as pop punk fans, we had to attend Sad Summer Music Festival this year. With record-hot temperatures, Sad Summer reminded us of our Warped Tour days, except thankfully, they played inside a venue this time!

Magnolia Park

Magnolia Park opened up the day with a powerful performance. We’ve been massive fans of the band since they blew up on TikTok and added them to all of our playlists. Although, this is the first time we’ve seen them live and they seriously did not disappoint. The energy on stage was immaculate and we could not have asked for a better first act to open the show.

Games We Play

Games We Play was second on the stage and they really did not come to play with the energy. The energy that was brought on that stage was contagious and although we weren’t familiar with their music, we were still bopping along while in the pit. We will be keeping an eye on future releases from them and adding them to our On The Rise playlists.

The Summer Set

Our favorite band, The Summer Set, is back and set that stage on fire. The nostalgia we felt seeing them on stage again was overwhelming. Being able to see them in person again made us feel 18 again when we’d travel all over the US to see them perform. Although ‘Chelsea’ is a classic and will never get old (for us), we loved that they played their newer bangers and we finally got to hear ‘Teenagers’ live. Out of their new releases, ‘Teenagers’ is definitely in the top five, in our humble opinion.

Mayday Parade

Another nostalgic band for us is Mayday Parade. We vividly remember when we uploaded ‘Miserable At Best’ to our T-Mobile Sidekick way back in 2007. Although we’ve loved them since we were in 6/7th grade (we were baby emos, shhh), we had only gotten to see them live one other time.

Waterparks

We are major Waterparks stans at THP HQ, so you know we were going absolutely insane in that pit during their headline set. Like Awsten said during their set, it was really cool that they were headlining “in 713 on 7/13.” We think it was the universe giving us a sign that it was going to be a good show. And the universe was right, it was an amazing performance. But honestly, every Parx show is amazing, in our humble hearts. There was even a proposal in the crowd that night, so it was all around a really beautiful night.
