K-Pop fans, this is not a drill! The “girls are back” for real this time and Girls’ Generation just dropped their first album in five years, FOREVER 1. It’s a ten-song collection of some of their best work to date, celebrating their bond and impact as one of the most successful girl groups of all time. Not to mention that it’s also a celebration of their 15th anniversary!
Let’s step ‘Into the new world’ of SNSD’s comeback album and check out some of our favorite tracks!
‘FOREVER 1’
The album’s title track is GG’s bubbly tribute to each other and their Sones, insisting “we’re still forever one” as a testament to their bond. Cue the waterworks! We think this will go down in history as one of our favorite SNSD title tracks, and it’s no wonder it’s a bop – KENZIE, who also worked on hits like ‘All Night,’ ‘Into the new world,’ and ‘You Think,’ co-wrote it!
“Just by being in it, you make the world more beautiful…”
‘You Better Run’
If the name of this song sounds familiar, you’re a true Sone – it’s meant to be a continuation of the forever-iconic ‘Run Devil Run!’ So if you love that track, “you better run, run, run, run, run” to check out this one. It feels like a modern sequel to the original that also stands apart as its own unique, edgy masterpiece with interesting guitars and synths.

‘Villain’
We love a good dark pop moment, and GG gives us just that on ‘Villain,’ which Tiffany and Sooyoung have writing credits on! This feels like it belongs on the soundtrack of a high-energy action movie, led by a female cast, of course. We’re not over Yoona’s deep-voiced rap on the second verse or Taeyeon’s smooth vocals on the bridge.

‘Mood Lamp’
Bringing in some more mellow vibes and R&B influences, ‘Mood Lamp’ is definitely a standout track for us on FOREVER 1. It’s not often we get to hear SNSD’s lower registers, and this song delivers in such a magical way. You can interpret it as a romantic love song or a tribute to their Sones, which we love!
“While the sad darkness spreads, you can rest in my quiet arms
While our eyes are slowly dyed in the night
I’ll still be with you warmly…”
