The RENAISSANCE Is Here: 5 Of Our Favorite Lyrics From Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE

If you’ve been on the internet at all in the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen all the buzz surrounding Beyoncé’s new album, RENAISSANCE! Drawing from everything from pop to dance music, she’s truly outdone herself this time around and given us 16 incredible tracks to dance and cry to. She really knows how to spoil us, huh?

But it’s not just successful among Beyhive, or even just with our emotions. RENAISSANCE debuted on top of the Billboard 200, becoming Bey’s seventh album to do so and extending her reign as the only female artist to debut at #1 with every single one of their albums. Lead single ‘BREAK MY SOUL’ is also making history after reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 – Beyoncé is the first female artist, and third artist overall, to have 10 top ten hits as part of a group and 20 as a solo act. Phew, we’re tired just thinking about how much hard work she’s put into this era!

To celebrate all of Beyoncé’s recent accomplishments and show off our appreciation for her boundary-pushing art, we wanted to round up some of our favorite lyrics from RENAISSANCE and why they’re so special to us!

“It’s not the diamonds, it’s not the pearls, I’m just that girl…”

Bey kicks the album off with a bang on ‘I’M THAT GIRL,’ which is full of confidence and has definitely earned a spot on our glow-up motivation playlists! It’s the perfect reminder that being that girl isn’t about the luxury things you have or how you look, it’s about who you are inside and learning how to love yourself.

“Poppin’ our pain and champagne through the ceilin’…”

‘ENERGY’ is all about leveling up in life, letting go of stress, and choosing to have fun. We all need to hear Bey’s message in that department after how chaotic the past few years have been for everyone! We love a play on “pain” vs. “champagne,” which artists like Fall Out Boy and Meghan Trainor have also toyed with in their past work.

“I’m on that new vibration, I’m buildin’ my own foundation…”

Part of what made ‘BREAK MY SOUL’ so relatable was its anti-9-to-5 message and Bey’s nonchalant announcement of “I just quit my job,” so we wanted to spotlight a more general lyric anyone can relate to, whether you feel like your job is wearing down your spirit or not. It’s never too late to step forward from the past or your struggles and focus on creating your “own foundation” for the life you want to live!

“I think you’re so cool, even though I’m cooler than you…”

The more mellow ‘PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA’ is a tribute to Beyoncé’s husband, fellow artist JAY-Z! This cheeky line never fails to make us smile, especially when it’s punctuated by Bey’s adorable laugh. So much serotonin in just a few seconds. This song sounds just like a fun summer afternoon spent with people you love feels!

“Fireworks and champagne, Chantilly lace…”

We love this line from ‘MOVE’ because it offers a nod to the actual Renaissance period of the 14th to the 17th century. Chantilly lace is a beautifully detailed fabric that became popular during the Renaissance, and eventually, royals like Marie Antoinette wore it on a regular basis. Just another reminder that Bey is a style icon who knows her stuff!
