Weird Al Yankovic is an icon, and we cannot tell you how enormously we’ve been looking forward to the release of his biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Two of our favorite things here at THP are both music and film, and when we get to combine them? The excitement rises tenfold. This is why we’re ecstatic to let you know we’ve had a sneak preview of the soundtrack with 2022 versions of all the Weird Al classics. You’re going to love it.
The Soundtrack Is Amazing!
It feels like every time we hear something new about the film, the anticipation builds. It’s a good thing it’s out today! With a cast including the likes of the legendary Daniel Radcliffe and Rainn Wilson, as well as the fabulous Quinta Brunson and Evan Rachel Wood, we knew it was going to be a roller coaster of fun, but this soundtrack has just been the cherry on top of the whole affair. While Dan will be playing the titular role, Weird Al is still the voice heard in the film!
Not only is the 43-track soundtrack chock-full of classic Weird Al tunes, but he’s also written a brand new original track for the film’s credit sequence, ‘Now You Know.’ The tongue-in-cheek song makes reference to the film’s fantastical storytelling. It’s hilarious and fun and everything we could’ve hoped for. Not to mention, this now also makes Weird Al eligible for Oscar nominations, and the cast is campaigning hard. Personally, we’re on their side – give this man an award! Not only is it a banger, but it had us in stitches with the comical lyrics – it’s too good.
You know we just had to share some of our fave Weird Al tunes from the soundtrack with you, so buckle up. It’s about to get weird!
‘Like A Surgeon’
As “Madonna” features heavily in the film, how could we not include this fun piece? Maybe don’t go watch the video if you’re squeamish, though, as it may be a little too medically (inaccurately) graphic. We’re really looking forward to seeing Evan Rachel Wood playing Madonna! Every interview we’ve seen so far with her and Dan has had fantastic chemistry, which we’re sure will translate into the movie!
‘I Love Rocky Road’
You know we’re big fans of Joan Jett here at THP, so this had to make the list. We’re big fans of Rocky Road, too; what can we say? We’re also of the opinion that, dare we say it, the 2022 version may go off even more than Al’s original. This one looks like it’s going to be fun in the film, and we can’t wait to watch Daniel Radcliffe playing the accordion. It just feels right.
‘Eat It’
Just like Michael Jackson‘s original ‘Beat It,’ Weird Al’s take on this song is equally infectious with ‘Eat It.’ Al might not be as smooth a dancer as MJ, but he did give it a good go. We’re looking forward to seeing Lin Manuel-Miranda’s take on Michael Jackson on the big screen!
