Usually, Star Wars-related things start with “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” But this time, we are not talking about something that happened a long time ago. We’re talking about some things that are a few months away. Between the new season of The Mandalorian and new shows like Willow, it’s easy to lose track of it all, but don’t worry. We’re here to help.
The Mandalorian Season 3
Our favorite space dad will be back for another season of The Mandalorian. In case you have somehow missed this banger of a show, here’s a quick summary: a while after the events of Return of the Jedi, the galaxy is still learning how to live in a time without the Empire, and that kind of environment is where outlaws and bounty hunters thrive. In the middle of that, we meet a figure at first, only known as The Mandalorian, a bounty hunter who refuses to take off his helmet and is kind of a loner.
But of course, things don’t stay like that for long. In the very first episode, Mando is tasked with bringing a mysterious asset to one of his “clients,” only to find out the asset in question is a child. The child won us all over the second he showed up, so much so that we keep coming back for more with each new season. Thankfully, the third season of The Mandalorian isn’t too far away, as it is set to drop on Disney+ on March 1.
Willow and Willow: Behind the Magic
This is kind of a two-for-one deal, and also technically not a Star Wars story. However, if it was produced by Lucasfilm, we’re counting it here, ok? Plus, there are quite a few references to Star Wars sprinkled throughout the episodes. But on to the plot of Willow: an aspiring sorcerer is tasked with protecting the empress Elora Danan while also doing everything in his power to banish the evil Queen Bavmorda from their land.
But of course, behind all the movie magic we see on Disney+, there is an awesome cast and crew who deserve all the praise in the world. That’s why we also recommend you check out Willow: Behind the Magic. The documentary takes us behind the scenes to have a chat with the actors and production crew of this wonderful fantasy show.
Ahsoka
We’ve been in love with Ahsoka Tano ever since we first saw her in The Clone Wars. Anakin’s sassy apprentice has one of the most interesting storylines in Star Wars canon, going from almost becoming a Jedi to being a loner after deciding to leave the order. We hadn’t seen much of her outside that show for a while, so imagine our surprise when Ahsoka showed up in The Mandalorian, played by Rosario Dawson.
And soon after that lovely surprise, we were told that Ahsoka would be getting her own show on Disney+ too! Can you believe that? Ahsoka doesn’t have an official release date just yet, but we do know it’ll be sometime this year, and we can’t wait.
Skeleton Crew
Also, sometime this year, we’ll be seeing Star Wars: Skeleton Crew hit Disney+. Here’s what we know so far: it’s set around the same time as The Mandalorian, but instead of following adults like most other Star Wars shows, Skeleton Crew will have four kids as protagonists.
During the show, which is set to be released on Disney+ sometime this year as well, the four protagonists will be lost somewhere in the post-Empire galaxy and are trying to find their way back home.
These are only a few of the new Lucasfilm productions we’re looking forward to in 2023. Many more will be coming around, but these are the ones we’re counting down the days for. But what about you? What’s the Lucasfilm project you’re looking forward to most? Tell us on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.
