Here at TheHoneyPOP, we have been sitting and waiting for Post Malone to bless us with new music. We’ve finally got a taste of the new era of one of our favorite artists, and our thirst couldn’t be more quenched right now! ‘Chemical’ is our new favorite song, and we’re so sure it’s going to be your new favorite too!
Co-written and co-produced by Watt, ‘Chemical’ arrives half a year after Post Malone released the immensely successful deluxe release of his album, Twelve Carat Toothache. That album gifted us with some incredible songs. That includes ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger,’ ‘Lemon Tree,’ ‘Euthanasia,’ and ‘I Like You (A Happier Song)’ featuring Doja Cat.
If ‘Chemical’ is our very first taste of the next album from Post Malone, then we are so ready to get our hands on that. ‘Chemical’ has already taken its throne in many of our playlists. We can’t get enough of it! This song has us absolutely addicted, and here are a few reasons why!
The Music Video
Post Malone is the star of the show in the ‘Chemical’ music video. Color graded in somber blues to start, we see him smoking in a car on his own. Those somber blues break away as he leaves the car, and the sunshine is let in as he walks onto a set. We see Post Malone jumping and dancing with different backdrops appearing behind him. Although the sun continues to shine in warm tones, the occasional dark blues appear as the backdrop changes to a storm every so often. The ‘Chemical’ music video is the perfect representation of the song, switching between a sunny disposition while also letting in the storm to reflect on the darker side of the lyrics. It’s such a fitting music video for such an addictive song!
The Upbeat Rhythm Is Addictive
Post Malone is capable of crafting songs that capture our hearts and have us listening on repeat for days. This is one of those songs. The upbeat rhythm paired with the lyrics creates quite a sentimental feel, and we can’t get enough of it! That sunny disposition paired with the raw, emotional lyrics creates a catchy and captivating song.
The Lyrics Are Incredible
We can understand why the song has its name. Post Malone explores the themes of addiction, being stuck in a relationship, and the struggling fight to break free. There’s also a powerful nod to chemical reactions in general, with emotional connections as well as with substances.
“Oxytocin makin’ it all okay
When I come back down, it doesn’t feel the same
Now I’m sittin’ ‘round waitin’ for the world to end all day
’Cause I couldn’t leave you if I tried
You break me, then I break my rules”
It’s Very Relatable
Bouncing off our appreciation for the lyrics, the messages held in them are pretty relatable. We’re sure many people could hear some of the lines in this song and feel them in their own way. We always love hearing music and finding our own interpretation, too. That can be a doorway to relation in itself.
It’s Post Malone!
Of course, the man himself is one of the reasons why we’re addicted to this song. The talent pouring from the rap-rocker is immense and truly apparent in every single song we hear from him. He’s always got us happily wrapped around his finger. After hearing about this new addition to his discography, which is a perfect demonstration of his versatility, we are so excited to hear what else he’s got waiting for us in his back pocket. Posty, please! We need more!
