In case you haven’t noticed, BLACKPINK has been dominating the music industry and with their ever-growing fan base, they’ve made their way to phenomenon status. After two jaw-dropping performances at Coachella 2023, the group is prepared to take the stage again this summer for encore performances of the BORN PINK World Tour! That means now is the perfect time to become a Blink! Not sure where to start? Let’s figure it out together!
The Basics
First things first, who is BLACKPINK? Lisa, Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo came together after years of extensive training, debuting in 2016. Their first single album, Square One, was released on August 8th, 2016, with two tracks, ‘Whistle’ and “Boombayah.’ They have since released two full-length albums and each embarked on their own solo projects. Do they ever sleep? As a group, they’ve broken barriers by being the first Korean girl group to take home a Video Music Award and the first K-Pop group to ever headline Coachella. So really, do we have any choice other than to stan?
Nope! Actually, at this point, becoming a Blink is almost inevitable. They’re everywhere… but who’s complaining? Everyone’s journey to Blinkdom (Is that even a word?) is different. Luckily, The Honey POP has a first-time listener to take you along for the ride! Me.
What Was The First BLACKPINK Song I Heard?
The first BLACKPINK song I’d ever heard was ‘Kill This Love’ when it first came out back in 2019. The music video popped up in my recommendations and out of curiosity, I clicked it. I’d never heard of BLACKPINK before this and, really, didn’t listen to K-Pop at all. But as an avid music lover, I’m always down to try new things. By the end of the day, I had it blaring through my TV dancing around my kitchen while doing dishes. So why didn’t I become a Blink then? Honestly, I have no idea. I really dropped the ball on that one, didn’t I?
‘Kill This Love’
I was immediately captivated by the bright colors, the visuals, and the fashion. They looked so cool. Seriously, I’m still obsessed with Jennie’s Tomb Raider-esque outfit. I need it in my closet now! I was humming ‘Kill This Love’ for a good week before eventually moving on. Here I am four years later, and I’m ready!
Do I Have A Bias Yet?
I do! At first, I was a bit confused. I kept asking myself questions like, “They’re all so amazing, how do you choose?” and “Do I have to pick a bias?” Although I’m sure the answer to the second is no, after several hours of listening (and falling down many, many fancam rabbit holes) I can officially declare myself as a Lisa stan. Her style, her attitude, and her charisma make her the whole package. She’s an energetic and captivating performer, plus let’s be honest, ‘Money’ slaps!
What’s My Favorite BLACKPINK Song?
Speaking of things that felt impossible to choose! How can you pick a favorite when they make banger after banger? Currently, I have ‘Typa Girl’ on repeat. It’s my jam. If I had to add to my top three, I’d say ‘Pink Venom’ and ‘Pretty Savage’ are right up there.

What Made Me Decide To Become A Blink?
There’s not really one distinct reason why I’m choosing the Blink life, but I am. If I had to give one of many, though, I’d say their recent Carpool Karaoke with James Corden definitely played a part. Their energy was absolutely infectious, I couldn’t stop laughing. These videos are inherently simple, but they had such a presence they made it fun and engaging from beginning to end. I figured if they put on that much of a show in a car, they have to be incredible on stage!
Am I Getting Tickets To The BORN PINK World Tour?
No. Unfortunately, BLACKPINK won’t be in my area. That doesn’t mean you can’t, though! US shows have been announced in Las Vegas, San Francisco, East Rutherford, and Los Angeles. Public sale begins on April 28th! You don’t wanna miss it.
