3 Female Artists You Should Be Stanning

Female Artists

We are always ready to hype and support talented female artists, and we love pulling others in on it. How do we do it? Simple, we just talk about music! So in that spirit, we come to you with three women who dropped new tunes this May. They each have a voice that deserves… no, that needs to be heard, and we hope we can convince you to do just that.

Here’s a little game before we jump into these female artists. All three of their songs have something in common, can you find what it is?

Content Warning: The article mentions mental health, and features a song with ‘depression’ in its title. Please read and listen with caution!

Chloe Ann

We are starting off with Chloe Ann and her latest single, ‘Put Me Second.’ Her music is full of energy, which comes from the pop-rock sound and her own expressive self when performing. To add to all this already captivating part of who she is, her new song touches a vulnerable and honest side to her, and we love seeing it.

Now, if you think ‘Put Me Second’ is a sad song about being the one who isn’t the priority in someone’s life, you’re a tad bit off. No, this single shows a powerful image and how a person willingly can and will put themselves second to the ones they love.

Throughout the song I go through the emotions of feeling frustrated, disappointed in myself and ultimately the realisation that I need to look out for my loved ones. The lyrics detail the stages of me acknowledging my mistakes and wanting to be better and do better.

Viana Valentine

Next up, we have Viana Valentine, who uses her talent for songwriting to express herself and deal with the challenges that life puts out. You can feel the dreamy sound in her music, and if you focus on the lyrics, you will notice they are an emotional confession of her own feelings. The artist touches on mental health issues while making her sound pleasant and fun to listen to.

In particular, it is hella easy to relate to Viana’s songs, with how real they are. ‘Hella Depressed’ is the perfect example of that with its rawness and how it’s meant as guidance on dealing with the low moments, which a lot of people can relate to.

‘Hella Depressed’ is a song to sway to, reflecting on the ways that I work through depression or self doubt in general. “For just one second I can clear my mind, gonna find myself for the hundredth time.” I talk about why my head is spinning and then what I try to do to silence the noise.

We have some great news surrounding Viana! She will be releasing her upcoming album, Fever Dream, on June 2, and it will be full with more of Viana’s honest songwriting. You can pre-save Fever Dream here.

Vicki Lovelee

We are wrapping this list with another incredibly talented female artist, Vicki Lovelee. Her music offers pop tunes with a dash of dark sounds and a sprinkle of the dramatic. Vicki’s music is like watching a spectacle, but with your ears!

Her latest single, ‘Retaliate,’ offers a strong stand while teaching us to accept all emotions that come with being human. Yes, even the ones society considers inappropriate to feel. Safe to say Vicki is another female artist who isn’t afraid of speaking her mind and opening up about commonly experienced struggles. Her own description of ‘Retaliate’ says it best.

When faced with a challenge, we all retaliate in different ways. And sometimes we experience “ugly” phase of emotions: jealousy, pettiness and anger. It’s ok to feel those emotions because they’re basic human emotions but yet we seem to deem them as “unwanted” emotions. I want to remind listeners that it’s ok to feel these emotions – the only way to overcome a situation is to allow yourself to feel those emotions first.
