The Little Mermaid Is Swimming Back Into Our Hearts Once Again

“I don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be bad.” Our favorite adventurous and hopeful princess of the sea said that. Well, we should say, the princess of the sea and land, Princess Ariel. Ariel, our little mermaid and the collector of various human “treasures” is heading back to the theater for us to enjoy very soon! It’s exciting to have another Disney Live Action version of an incredible Disney classic. Going from 1989’s The Little Mermaid with an outstanding cast to 2023’s The Little Mermaid with an equally impressive cast, we know that this highly anticipated remake will be unforgettable.

The Little Mermaid truly has a stunning cast! The cast is pushing boundaries and going above all expectations for this movie! With Halle Bailey sharing her incredible vocal talent as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, just to name a few, this version of The Little Mermaid is going to be stellar. Recently, the cast attended the world premiere of The Little Mermaid, where the original voice of Ariel, Jodie Benson, was also in attendance!

Can you imagine being there and seeing the two amazing actresses that have been Ariel in the same room? Also, we have to share that Chloë Bailey was there to support her sister, the leading princess.

We, Disney lovers and bigger Disney Princess lovers would’ve cried! This all better get you more excited about the movie’s release. Together we are screaming, yeah buoy with anticipation for May 26th. At THP, we think everyone after watching this movie will be feeling fin-tastic.

What We Hope To See In This Crabsolutely Amazing Version Of The Little Mermaid

Certainly, most of us have seen the original 1989 animated version of The Little Mermaid. If you haven’t, what have you been doing with your life? Normally we would say avoid “pier” pressure, but this time you need to cave in and watch it! To fully enjoy the 2023 live-action movie you should get refreshed or caught up with the 1989 movie. We’re nudging you to pop in the VHS tape, DVD, or stream 1989’s The Little Mermaid on Disney+, that way you can enjoy both versions of the movie, hear the amazing music, and embrace any of the changes they made to better the film! Seriously, this movie seems so “whale” done and amusing!

With all that in mind, there are a few things that we can’t wait to see in this version of The Little Mermaid.  For clarification, we aren’t sure if these things will be what we see in the movie, but we sure hope that we do! Here are the top 5 things we are hoping to see in this remake!

1. Ariel’s “Dinglehopper” (Fork) Moment At Dinner With Prince Eric

Who didn’t giggle as a little kid when Ariel finally got to be at dinner with Eric and used a fork for the first time with real people using only the instructions from Scuttle her seagull best friend? It was a delight when we were younger to see Ariel attempt to comb out her hair with the fork and see the royal court watch in shock. It would be jaw-some for that moment to still be done by Halle Bailey’s interpretation of Ariel! Just picture Halle Bailey grabbing a freshly polished fork with unmatched excitement and running it through her hair! It’ll be surreal, we need a ticket bought now!

2. We Hope To Be Shell-Abarating A Daveed Digs Version Of ‘Under The Sea’

Daveed Digs the Hamilton start who played Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson is going to make a perfect Sebastian. Those of us who have watched Hamilton or have at least heard songs from Hamilton, or have heard about the musical, know that the original cast was phenomenal. Daveed Digs was a standout in the musical along with his cast mates and won a GRAMMY for it. This notably, means that with Daveed Digs’ superb role in Hamilton playing two sassy characters and his singing and rapping abilities that ‘Under The Sea’ will be out of this world. Or should we say out of the ocean?

‘Under The Sea’ is such a fun jazzy Caribbean song that, undoubtedly, will continue to have its fun and charming sound brought to life in a new way with Daveed Digs. We can’t wait to see how this song pans out in the movie!

3. Ariel’s Transformation From Mermaid Into A Human

It’s not a typical transformation that many mermaids or merfolk go through. As a young watcher in the early 2000s, the transformation of Ariel into a human was quite impressive and fascinating. Ariel singing her voice away and signing a contract with the sea witch Ursula was a climatic moment that none of us can forget. This moment will be so fascinating to see in 2023 with modern technology and CGI. Knowing how Disney tends to go all out in the live remakes of their Disney animated classics, we are certain that the effects will be mesmerizing!

It’ll be cool to see how everything feels more life-like in this crucial moment in the movie. Especially seeing how Ursula’s cave full of poor unfortunate souls that didn’t meet their end of the bargain turns out. This part of the movie was one of the darker moments, certainly, and we are anticipating that it will continue to be as eerie. If not eerier with the use of modern special effects!

We can’t wait to see this interaction between Ursula and Ariel! Ariel gave up her strongest power, herself, to get a taste of her dream. As adults, we know that is a mighty sacrifice to test the waters of experiencing a new life. We don’t recommend making deals with a sea witch though to achieve your dreams, but we love girl bosses!

4. Ariel And Eric’s Turtle-y Cute Relationship

Their relationship no matter what, has been super cute. It was cute in the animated movie and will be even cuter in this rendition of The Little Mermaid. Despite them not being able to communicate verbally (at first), we have a feeling that Halle and Jonah’s chemistry will be melting our hearts. One trailer for the movie that includes ‘Kiss The Girl’ shows how romantic Eric really is. That memorable scene of Eric taking Ariel in a small rowboat is any hopeless romantic’s dream! Seeing a glimpse of what this song and scene will be like in the upcoming movie and the interaction between this Ariel and Eric, have our hearts fluttering!

This is giving us a lot of confidence in their relationship being charming and magical. It wouldn’t be a Disney princess movie without a little bit of magical romance. However, as a reminder the movie is way more than just romance as it is about Ariel’s relationship with self-discovery and the power of her self-expression. Which does go hand in hand with finding a love interest that enjoys all versions of you. Literally. As a voiceless human, a mermaid, and then permanently a human with a strong voice.

Would it be shell-fish of us to want Prince Eric to be our guy?

5. Ariel’s Excitement Towards Exploring The Human World

There is no joy like watching someone getting finally experience something that they thought would be impossible. We all know that feeling! Whether it is for seeing a concert of Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, or the Jonas Brothers, earning a degree, traveling the world, etc., there is a surge of pure joy when obtaining a lifelong dream experience or thing. Ariel’s is a bit different than that. Her whole dream is to explore and see the human world. Fortunately, Ariel has amazing support from Scuttle and Flonder to chase her dreams.

Truthfully, we are excited to see how Halle captivates watchers with Ariel’s childlike excitement and sense of adventure when she goes beachside. One of our favorite moments is when Ariel learns how to ride a bike. It’s a silly moment in the original animated movie, but it perfectly represents Ariel. The moment we see Ariel’s cave full of her collection and how smart she is, we see that she has outgrown her sea. The largest thing on the planet, the ocean, has become too small for her hopes, dreams, desires, and voice. Most of us dread being landlocked, but Ariel, wishes to no longer “drown” but to be tall on land.

What would I give if I could live out of these waters?
What would I pay to spend a day warm on the sand?
Bet’cha on land they understand
Bet they don’t reprimand their daughters
Bright young women sick of swimmin’
Ready to stand

‘Part Of Your World’

Ariel’s precious cave of human artifacts will be so fun to see in this remake! It’ll be really fascinating to see what real life items they place in Ariel’s possession. There could be so many different ways that the directors could’ve approached this! They could’ve placed Easter Eggs of real life lost treasure being found by Ariel. Or perhaps they placed original treasure items that have been randomly dropped or lost in shipwrecks from the local area. We know for a fact that Ariel manages to get the life size full body busy of Prince Eric in her cave.

Ariel is just like us, another fangirl, with a life size poster (statue) of the hot guy she likes. We don’t have to justify having a life size cardboard cut out of Tom Hiddleston anymore since Ariel has her Eric statue. We just have simply learned from the best!
