5 Blur Songs To Get You Hyped For The Ballad Of Darren

This is not a drill! Blur really is releasing their first album in 8 years! Can you believe it? We were shook when we found out it has been 8 years since they released The Magic Whip, and even more shook when we realized it has been 20 years since Think Tank. Where does the time go? Anyway, while we recover from how old we suddenly feel, let’s take a moment to get excited for The Ballad of Darren! All aboard the hype train!

The Ballad of Darren is the band’s ninth studio album. It will feature 10 tracks, and it’s set to release on July 21st. That’s not far away! We can already tell that this album will be the highlight of our summer. Thanks, Blur!

But enough chitter chatter! Let’s dive in and listen to some incredible Blur songs to keep this hype train going!

‘Girls & Boys’

Ridiculously catchy, and a timeless song we can easily have on repeat. ‘Girls & Boys’ is from Blur’s Parklife album, which was released in 1994. This song is for the girls who want boys, who like boys to be girls, who do boys like they’re girls, and who do girls they’re boys. Got it? Great! Now sing that chorus back to us while we dance!

‘Song 2’

An iconic anthem from an immensely iconic band. ‘Song 2’ is from their self-titled album, which was released back in 1997. There is absolutely no way to listen to this song without headbanging. The pure adrenaline that pumps through us when we listen to this one is enough to make us feel like we can accomplish anything. It’s only 2 minutes long, but it has a hefty impact!

‘Good Song’

We’re sure you’ll agree when we say that the title of this song is an understatement. ‘Good Song,’ — which is from Blur’s 2003 Think Tank album — is a very powerful track. It showcases Blur’s ability to portray a large amount of emotion in their lyrics without the sound swaying too far toward sorrow. This one touches our hearts so lightly.

‘Lonesome Street’

From start to finish, ‘Lonesome Street’ has us bopping our heads. Not only does it have a beautifully strange yet addictive aura of reassurance, but it also captures the essence of 90’s Blur. As the leading track of Blur’s 2015 album, Magic Whip, it transports us back to the iconic sound we all adore. It’s safe to say that this hit, reminiscent of all the classics, is one we can’t help but return to time and time again.

‘The Narcissist’

Our first taster of what we can expect from The Ballad of Darren! ‘The Narcissist’ is the first single from the upcoming album, and wow, what a song! We absolutely love the backing vocals echoing words back, and we also adore the lyricism. There’s something about this song that sparks hope in our hearts, while it also slips into darkness in moments of reflection. It’s a beautiful balance and a song that everyone needs to hear.
