We Can’t Wait To Paint Our Playlists Pink With The Barbie Soundtrack, Barbie The Album

Is there anyone who isn’t excited for the Barbie movie with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling to hit theaters this summer? We’re tickled pink just thinking about it! We didn’t think there was anything that could possibly make this better, but Atlantic Records is bringing us the soundtrack in the form of Barbie The Album, which is as incredible as it sounds. The project will feature new music from some of our favorite artists – including Lizzo, Khalid, Charli XCX, and HAIM – as well as a Ryan Gosling song called ‘I’m Just Ken,’ which will probably accompany an iconic scene in the movie as he follows Barbie on her adventure into the real world. On top of all that, the incomparable Mark Ronson executive produced it, so you know this will be mind-blowing.

July 21st seriously can’t come fast enough, because we need all these songs in our library stat. We’ve already gotten to hear the album’s lead single, Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance The Night,’ and that title is very appropriate, because it makes us wanna dance the night away. Right off the bat, we knew we’d love the song and music video – how could you not when one of the opening shots is captioned “This Barbie is making a music video?” It shows Dua arriving to the video set and instantly being ready to make magic happen, then being completely unbothered when the centerpiece disco ball shatters. What a queen!

We think the car scene was such a cute nod to the cover of Dua’s Future Nostalgia album, and did you catch that cameo from Barbie director Greta Gerwig? This wasn’t the only time she’s directed Dua, because Dua will also be starring in the movie as a mermaid doll, and we can’t wait to get to know her character!

Adding a little bit of spice to the world of Barbie will be none other than Ice Spice! She’s hopping on ‘Barbie World’ with Nicki Minaj – who not only has the nickname of “Barbie” and calls her fans Barbz, but has also released songs called ‘Barbie Tingz’ and ‘Barbie Dreams.’ Plus, can we talk about the fact that the song seemingly samples Aqua’s smash ‘Barbie Girl?’ We got a little preview of the song at the end of the latest Barbie trailer and we already know this will be one of our songs of the summer.

Another collab we can’t wait to hear on the album is FIFTY FIFTY and Kali’s ‘Barbie Dreams,’ the final song on the tracklist! 2023 has really been the year for each of these talented ladies, with FIFTY FIFTY’s ‘Cupid’ and Kali’s ‘Area Codes’ taking TikTok by storm over the past few months. We’re in awe just thinking about the viral potential for ‘Barbie Dreams,’ and we can’t wait to hear how they come together to give us one amazing song. There’s way more than a 50-50 chance that we’ll love it!

You can check out the Barbie The Album tracklist below, and keep an eye out for the yet-to-be-unveiled songs to be announced! Only a few weeks to go until we get to hear the full thing…
