It wouldn’t be spooky season without us talking about the one and only Ghostface, now would it? We have a soft spot in our hearts for this horror icon. So naturally we have songs that we associate with this slaying icon as well. And what better way to fully embrace this Halloween season than by sharing them with all of our favorite honeybees? Let’s grab our Ghostface masks and our favorite scary movies while we dive on in!
‘cult leader’ – KiNG MALA
You could definitely call Ghostface a mindreader if you wanted to. Given how close he is to everyone in the films, he definitely knows a thing or two when entering his plots and plans. And yeah, he’s also for sure the villain in somebody else’s story. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the SCREAM cinematic universe is that Ghostface is a ‘cult leader’ at their core. “I might be the villain in somebody else’s story, but that’s fine. My methods are controversial, but at least it keeps ’em all in line.”
‘Stabbing In The Dark’ – Ice Nine Kills
Now who better to represent Ghostface than Ice Nine Kills and their The Silver Scream album? A record centered around the greatest horror films to ever exist. We just know that this is something Ghostface would have blaring in his ears as he executes his latest evil plan. And you know what? We can’t blame them either! “If there’s life in the shadows, let the knife leave its mark. When the certainty of safety feels like stabbing, stabbing in the dark.”
‘I Never Told You What I Do For A Living’ – My Chemical Romance
You didn’t think we wouldn’t mention that album that’s literally about a man m**dering 1,000 evil men, did you? This is 10,000% on Ghostface’s “slashing, don’t text!” playlist. Also, any performance of this track will show Gerard Way having the absolutely insane energy of a maniac like Ghostface themself. “Another knife in my hands, a stain that never comes off the sheets. Clean me off, I’m so dirty babe.”
‘Like A Villian’ – Bad Omens
This is a track we kind of feel like Ghostface while listening to. It makes us think of the iconic scenes where the mask is pulled off right before the final blow. And we know that Ghostface themself would feel the exact same way. Especially the reflective aspect of saying it’s hard being alone with yourself. Now that’s a narrative we think anyone could get behind. “Look into my face, then look again. We are not the same, we’re different. To tell your tales and fables, you couldn’t wait.”
‘AmEN! (feat. Lil Uzi Vert and Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw)’ – Bring Me The Horizon
We can’t get enough of the world that Bring Me The Horizon has been building with their NeX Gen universe. And ‘AmEN!’ is simply the first of the tracks that truly give us Ghostface energy. We so see Billy Loomis listening to this before the massive party at the end of SCREAM. And honestly, we can see every other Ghostface doing the same thing before their final blows! “So tell all your friends. This is the end of everything. Too late to repent. The wicked will reap what they sow.”
‘People I Don’t Like’ – UPSAHL
Everyone knows we’re massive UPSAHL fans here at The Honey POP! And we think Ghostface would be too! Not to mention the fact we so see them listening to this in their ears as they strut to their next crime scene. And honestly, the baddie energy that UPSAHL carries is also giving Ghostface to the highest degree! “Hello, it’s so good to see you. We met before, but nice to meet you. Yeah, I don’t really wanna be here like.”
‘SIMP’ – Full Tac, Lil Mariko, Rico Nasty
How could ‘SIMP’ not give Ghostface energy? All that most Ghostface’s want is to be worshipped. Especially in the last two installments in the franchise, it’s all about worshipping Ghostface and the STAB franchise. We just know this is what Ghostface would listen to while getting ready for their night of unlawful behaviors. “S-I-M-P! I want you to worship me! Get down on your knees! You can’t even talk to me!”
‘ANIMAL’ – PVRIS
This one is giving rebellion, it’s giving breaking the mold, it’s giving Ghostface! Not only do you not recognize them in their mask, but you also never truly know them at their core upon realizing who is behind that mask. The ultimate Gemini energy, just like Lynn Gunn talks about in this iconic track. “Don’t tell me that you know me, know me. Sayin’ what I feel, what I do, what I want. Quit actin’ like you own me, own me. Sayin’ that I’m yours to control, but I’m not. Your animal, under control.”
