Salt The Water By Candice Iloh

Our first audiobook recommendation is Candice Iloh’s new young adult novel in verse. Salt the Water tells the story of Cerulean Gene, a nonbinary, queer, Black teen trying to break free from the post-pandemic public school system. They want to move across the country with their friends and live off the grid, but unrelenting challenges keep happening to them. Listening to the audiobook for Salt the Water makes it so much more powerful, and we stayed tuned in.

The Night House By Jo Nesbo

A list of October audiobooks wouldn’t be complete without a horror novel! We had to listen to Jo Nesbo’s The Night House during the day so we wouldn’t spook ourselves before going to sleep. This novel follows fourteen-year-old Richard Elauved, a boy who gets blamed for the disappearance of two classmates. He tries to prove his innocence and break the dark curse on his town. But we learned not to trust everything we hear because the plot twists in this audiobook threw us for a loop!

Sinner’s Isle By Angela Montoya

Sweet Listens: Sinner's Isle by Angela Montoya cover

Lastly, we recommend Angela Montoya’s debut novel, Sinner’s Isle! It’s an enchanting romantic fantasy set on an island where beautiful witches (Majestics) are held captive until they’re old enough to be auctioned at the annual Offering. Rosalinda, a Majestic with the power to control phantoms, desperately searches for a way to escape Sinner’s Isle before the binding ritual. Enter Mariano, the charming Prince of Pirates marooned on the island. We loved the alternating points of view, and hearing the characters come to life through the narration was fantastic.
