If you are anything like us, you’ve been waiting…and waiting…and waiting for kenzie’s debut album. Up until today, we’ve been streaming our favorite tracks from the past few years, ‘bad 4 u’ and ‘paper.’ kenzie has been hard at work curating her debut album for the last two years, and it’s finally here. Now that it’s out, we had to invite kenzie to the hive to discuss the release of biting my tongue (stream it here!), the rest of her year, a possible tour, and her BRAT summer. 💚🎶
Welcome to The Honey Pop, kenzie! For new fans who are reading about you for the first time, can you introduce yourself using three adjectives that describe your plans for the rest of 2024?
exciting, fun, bright
Your new album dropped today! Congratulations! What are you looking forward to the most during the rollout process?
I can’t believe it’s finally out since it’s been 2 years in the making! I can’t wait to start performing this album and hopefully tour!
biting my tongue is a bit of an ironic album title considering you’re opening up and speaking (or singing) about things you may have been silent about. What drove you to make this decision at this specific time?
I’m really bad at confrontation and talking about my feelings, and music just makes it so much easier for myself. My song, ‘Anatomy’ is so honest and raw, it was just the start and inspiration towards the rest of the songs.
About a month ago you celebrated your 20th birthday. What are a few life lessons from your past eventful 20 years that you took into the writing process of biting my tongue?
I’ve learned to take risks because you never know what can come out of it. The music industry is so big, but you just can’t get discouraged, and at the end of the day I make music for myself.
What is one song from this record that you think would surprise listeners the most?
‘midnight murder’ because it’s most out of my comfort zone and it’s one of the songs that is very different from the others.
We love following you on TikTok these days and can’t wait to see how your new songs trend amongst dancers on the app. What does your FYP look like? What are your favorite videos to watch right now? Mukbangs? GRWM? ASMR?
My FYP is always changing but right now it’s dogs, babies, and Charli xcx because it’s brat summer.
You’ve hinted a few times that fans may be seeing you out on the road soon. What can we expect from kenzie live on tour?
I’m so excited to be face-to-face with fans and play my music I’ve been working so hard on. It’s always so sweet meeting everyone and they are the best!
Who is your favorite artist that you’ve seen live this year? What is one thing that this performer does live on stage that you want to bring to your own future tours?
I recently saw Tate McRae live and it was amazing! Her stage presence is surreal and I think she’s so good. I’m more comfortable during the singing aspects of shows rather than talking in between and she kills it doing this.
Are there any final thoughts you want OG kenzie fans (and new fans!) to know?
