Back in 2015, millions of hearts broke around the world as One Direction announced they’d be stepping out of the spotlight for a little while. Ever since the break was announced, fans have been speculating reasons as to why and just how long they would be gone for. Four years on, Niall Horan has made a more in-depth comment behind the reason for One Direction’s hiatus.
Speaking with The Telegraph about the world’s favourite boyband taking time out, Niall explained:“It was incredible. But we got tired. Not tired of it, just tired out. Five albums, five tours, in five years. We were all knackered. I can never really remember any major bust-ups, just brotherly family nagging, shitty arguments like that. But we were gonna end up killing each other. We all sat down one day, had a chat and it was like, we need to take a break. Step back, chill out and try something new.” Don’t look at me, I’m a mess.
And if you’re wondering as to just when – or even if – the band will reunite someday, Niall said: “There was no timeline on the gap. I would have preferred if someone said five years, and it probably will end up something like that. I’m enjoying what I’m doing, but if one of the lads were to pick up the phone and say it’s time, I’d do it.”
Now before we go jumping the gun, the keyword is “probably”. However, if he is right and the rest of the band – who have all previously shown interest in candid interviews – are still on to get back together, we may – just may – see our favorite group back together as early as 2021.
Mr Horan also shared a bittersweet memory from that last live performance together. “We still had work after that show – but yeah, we were bawling our eyes out right before we went near the stage. We were just like, this is the last time that we will get in a huddle and walk onto a stage for a long time together.”
I’M NOT CRYING, YOU ARE.
Back to the present day, Niall is currently promoting his latest single, ‘Nice To Meet Ya’, meanwhile Louis and Liam have both recently released singles and following Harry Styles’ interview with Rolling Stone magazine, we can expect content from HS2 pretty much any day now.
Oh, the struggle of being a Directioner in 2019.
