Riverdale: Fans React to Emotional Luke Perry Tribute
In Memoriam-Episode 1 title.

Riverdale fans the world over were eagerly awaiting the premiere of Season 4 and on Wednesday night the wait was over.

In March this year, the Riverdale family was hit with tragedy as beloved actor Luke Perry died at his home in LA, surrounded by loved ones . In addition to his role in Riverdale, perhaps he was best known for his role in Beverly Hills 90210.

Following his death came an outpouring of grief and lots of heartfelt tributes from fellow cast members, actors and of course the fans themselves on social media. All of them wanting to remember him in their own way.

So it was with no surprise that the production team and writers wanted to give the character the death he deserved and honour the cherished actor who portrayed him.

At the end of the last season, the character’s absence was explained simply by stating that he was out of town on a business trip. This was to give the writers time to create a fitting end for the character.

Creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa explained the thought process behind giving the character a fitting death at a screening event recently.

“To give Fred’s (and Perry’s) death the respect it deserved. The Riverdale writers decided that the premiere wasn’t going to launch any huge stories for the season. It was really going to be kind of focused on [Fred’s passing], and the emotional effects of that passing for everyone.”
