The BRIT Awards have been an iconic awards ceremony for as long as we can remember. Particularly because it’s the biggest night of the year for British music, with artists and musicians traveling from all over the world to be there.
Next year will see the 40th BRIT awards held on February 18th and surprisingly they’ve decided to make some BIG changes to the way things work. So obviously we wanna share everything we know with you guys!
The BRIT categories will be different…
The first noticeable change will be the amount of categories, incredibly next year they are going to cut it down to just nine.
They aren’t stopping there either! Whilst they have awards including Best Male and Female solo artist, Best Group, Album of the year and international male and female solo artists.
Some of the categories will be revamped with new names. Which will see ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ becoming ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best British Single’ becoming ‘Song of the year’.
Perhaps the biggest change of all will be to the ‘Critics choice award’ which will be renamed ‘Rising star award’. Incredibly the lucky winner will also get a performance slot, this is a first in the shows’ history.
The audience vote will be no more…
“NOOOOO!” comes the cry from fans everywhere. Sadly, the audience vote has to go.
Instead (according to the BBC) they have created an ‘official voting academy’ of 1,200 experts from across the music industry. Does this mean a fairer vote? we certainly hope so!
Notably, the artists are getting more control over their performances. Organizers have agreed to relax the rules and have said they will “hand the stage to the artists booked to perform on the night without imposing any creative limitations”
We are so looking forward to what the artists will come up with and just how creative they can be!
What will the new BRIT award design be?
Well, after a decade of some beautiful, some wacky and some very creative reimagined designs by an array of talented designers, the original classic ‘Lady Britannia Brit’ is making her return to the BRITS. She is gonna be the star of the night!
Chairman of the BRIT committee 2020, David Joseph said “We have had a fresh look at the BRIT Awards this year. Most importantly we will be putting creativity, British culture and exceptional performances at the heart of the show to make Brits night a world-class celebration. The awards should be a global platform for the artists of the year to create moments that live beyond the night itself. We are looking at everything to put on the best possible show.”
Finally, don’t expect to see male and female categories after next year as organisers revealed they are going to be axed, to make way for gender inclusivity.
It has been reported that organisers will be consulting artists and labels, so they can work on the future of the ceremony and bring it up to date and make it more streamlined.
We will, of course, keep you updated on all the info and gossip between now and February 18th.
