A Decade in Review: Most Memorable Moments in Fashion

With a new decade on the horizon, it seems fitting that we take a look back at everything that has happened in the last ten years. Trust me, a lot has happened. The Honey Pop is happy to introduce A Decade in Review, a series that will look back on the most memorable moments in fashion, film, music, etc. over the course of the 2010s.

To kick off A Decade in Review, The Honey POP is looking back at the most memorable Moments in Fashion over the last decade.

Lady Gaga and the Meat Dress (2010)

Lady Gaga got lots of people talking when she stepped onto the red carpet at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in the “meat dress,” designed by Franc Fernandez. Animal activist groups were outraged by the pop singer’s decision to wear raw meat on the red carpet. After the awards, she appeared on the Ellen Show and explained her decision to wear the dress. Gaga told Ellen that the dress was “tied to her protest against the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and was a statement against the government restrictions placed on the rights of gay soldiers.”

Despite the mixed press, the dress earned her the award of Top Fashion Statement of 2010 by Time magazine. This one of a kind look also earned itself its own Wikipedia page.

I don’t know about you, but I sure am glad meat dresses didn’t become the hot trend of the decade!

Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress (2011)

The Royal Wedding was a big deal for pop culture in the 2010s, but nothing was more talked about than the Dutchess’s wedding dress. The dress was designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen and is rumored to have cost $434,000. There’s no denying that’s a price tag fit for a future queen.

The wedding dress was met with high praise and inspired a world of future brides to seek out replica dresses of the Dutchess’s iconic look. It also earned itself its own Wikipedia page.

Angelina Jolie and her leg (2012)

Angelina Jolie looked amazing at the 84th Academy Awards’ red carpet ceremony. The dress which was designed by Versace was chosen by Jolie because of its comfort level.

Yes, the look earned Angelina Jolie lots of buzz from the fashion world, but it was the social media attention the dress earned that landed her a spot on The Honey POP’s “Most Memorable Fashion Moments” list.

Who could forget the “Jolie-ing” meme, which involved photoshopping multiple legs onto Jolie? The look also inspired many people to showcase their own versions of the dramatic split dress. You can check out all the memes at

Miley Cyrus Fashion Transformation (2013)

2013 was a busy year for Miley Cyrus, who was still trying to shed her squeaky-clean Disney image. Who could forget her MTV VMA performance with Robin Thicke or the music video for her hit song “Wrecking Ball?” Despite the mixed bag of press the former child star garnered, Cyrus managed to always make a statement with her wardrobe.

From classier looks like this Azzaro gown which she wore to the 21st Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscar Viewing Party or the Met Gala look (featured above).

To her more daring wardrobe choices like this look from Cyrus’s performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

There’s no denying Miley Cyrus wrecking ball-ed her way into the fashion world.

Rihanna’s #Freethenipple Dress (2014)

2014 had a lot of memorable fashion moments from Kim Kardashian breaking the internet with her cover of PAPER Magazine to Lupita Nyong’o’s iconic Golden Globes dress to Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid entering the supermodel world. All of these are great moments, but none of them were iconic enough to win the top spot for the most memorable fashion moment of 2014. That award goes to Rihanna.

Rihanna got people talking when she showed up at the CFDA awards wearing a sparkly sheer dress designed by Adam Selman. Many people felt it was inappropriate that the singer chose to expose her breasts so publicly by choosing to not wear a bra. While others saw the move as an act of radical feminism.

Rihanna has stated that she had no idea of the #freethenipple movement when she decided to wear the now infamous dress. Though, she is a fan of the movement.

One thing we can all agree on is that Rihanna absolutely stunned with this look.

Justin Bieber and Kendal Jenner become Calvin Klein’s models (2015)

Calvin Klein is no stranger to having the best looking and most popular celebrities pose for their annual campaign. In 2015, they decided Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner were the perfect fit for the job. The campaigns earned both stars fantastic buzz and Calvin Klein’s social media following grew by the millions.

Justin Bieber’s ad even earned him the coveted honor of being an SNL skit. You can watch Kate Mckinnon channel her inner Bieber below.

Harry Styles makes his modeling debut on the cover of ‘Another Man.’ (2016)

While One Direction fans were still mourning after the hiatus, Harry Styles was busy making sure his presence would continue to bless us. Styles made his modeling debut on the cover of Another Man in 2016. Harry graced the world with three different looks for three covers of the same magazine. I guess Harry is as extra as us fans are. It’s a perfect match!

Fashion gets political with Pink Hats (2017)

Let’s be honest, everything got political in 2017 and fashion was no exception.

Krista Suh and Jayna Zweima created the first hats and uploaded the pattern to the internet so women all over the country could make their own hat. They urged everyone to wear the hates at the 2017 Women’s March in the US to create a visual impact. It’s clear that their mission was a success.

The pink hats are now infamous and have become a symbol of feminism. The hats gained so much press they found their way onto fashion runways, landed a Time magazine cover, earned several SNL skits, and they also have their own Wikipedia page.

5 Seconds of Summer’s “Meet You There” Tour Looks (2018)

Okay so this one might be a bit of stretch but we had to include 5SOS somewhere on A Decade in Review: Most Memorable Moments in Fashion list. I mean come on, we are all 5SOS stans here at The Honey POP.

From glitter makeup and sheer shirts to coordinating outfits and killer shoes 5 Seconds of Summer really upped their stage presence with their wardrobe in 2018. They have always been an amazing live band and the outfits only added to the professionalism and atmosphere of their concert.

Plus, it’s nice to see more male artists take fashion risks. Keep up the good work boys!

The Met Gala: “Camp: Notes on Fashion” (2019)

It was only a matter of time before the King and Queen of the fashion world get asked to be co-chairs for the Met Gala. 2019 answered all our prayers when Harry Styles and Lady Gaga were given the honor. Styles, Gaga, Serena Williams, Gucci creative director Alessandro Michelle, and Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine landed on the theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”

Lady Gaga certainly did not disappoint when she stepped out onto the pink carpet. The singer changed four different times while she ascended the steps inside the MET.

Harry on the other hand … well, he didn’t disappoint but his look also wasn’t that shocking. Styles chose to wear a sheer and lace top that showed off his tattoos and chest. Fans swooned everywhere when Harry stepped onto the pink carpet in the Gucci look. But if we look at the outfits Harry wore on his debut tour last year, well, let’s just say he could have brought more to the met.

Other impressive looks from this year’s Met included Zendaya’s Cinderella look which literally transformed before our very eyes. Kacey Musgraves showed up to the pink carpet dressed as Barbie and she did not disappoint. And who could forget Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s matching glitter shoes. We sure can’t!

This seemed to be the best Met Galal ever! Maybe we’re biased though since celebrities we recognize are now getting invited. Either way, the 2019 Met Gala is our favorite fashion moment from 2019 because so many great looks came from it!

And that concludes The Honey POP’s A Decade in Review: Most Memorable Moments in Fashion list. Tune in next time when A Decade in Review looks back at the most memorable moments in music over the last decade!
