Fresh Music Friday: Harry Styles, Little Mix, Lewis Capaldi, and MORE

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

‘Watermelon Sugar’ – Harry Styles

We are well and truly in the HS2 era as Harry has dropped the second track from his sophomore album, ‘Fine Line’. The nostalgic track has some seriously sensual lyrics that transports us back to the summer season. The track feels heavily influenced by old skool rock which is refreshing as it feels as though Styles is making older music cool again but for a new generation. If you’re feeling quite cold this winter and yearn for those days in the sun, this track will sure keep you toasty.

‘Before You Go’ – Lewis Capaldi

Just a day before finding out he is a GRAMMY nominee, Lewis Capaldi dropped his latest single ‘Before You Go’ from the extended edition of his debut album which coincidentally also drops today. Capaldi recently spoke about the song being about losing his aunt to suicide and dealing with the aftermath of the loss. He explained how it was his most personal song yet.

A song like this is something we need on the radio for everyone and anyone who is going through or who have been through similar situations. We often talk about suicide prevention, but forget about the loved ones who are impacted by their losses. In this solemn song, Lewis pens the words many struggle to find. It’s heart-aching and powerful but it doesn’t shy away from the very real emotions of grief from such a tragic loss.

Kesha is back with another new single and she’s not taking any of your BS. This loud and in-your-face song is a bold statement telling the world that she is not here for your amusement because she’s here for herself. Another tear-jerker for this week’s Fresh Music Friday. Just weeks after their last single, HAIM have released their emotional new ballad, ‘Hallelujah’. The song was inspired by the passing of Alana’s best friend. This stripped-back track is full of country vibes and is a beautiful tribute to Alana’s loss and is definitely one that people can apply to their own situations.

‘Love You For A Long Time’ – Maggie Rogers

We’ve got another GRAMMY nominee in this week’s Fresh Music Friday! Maggie Rogers has released her new single which is a love letter to her fans. Speaking of the new track, she says: “This is a song about love in all its forms—romantic love, the love I feel for my friends, the love I feel for my band, and the love I’ve shared with all of you. I wanted it to sound like the last days of summer. I wanted it to sound as wild and alive as new love feels.”

The upbeat bop is wholesome and captures that feeling of love in the honeymoon period. You can easily dream about frolicking with your loved one through fields and making each other flower crowns while you’re all heart-eyed emoji.

‘Loneliest Time of Year’ – Mabel

The Christmas songs are coming in thick and fast here at Fresh Music Friday, with Mabel being another one of the latest artists to drop a festive tune. This track has the makings of a classic Christmas song but lyrically sticks to the brutally honest stories which we are so used to from the songstress. Don’t let those jingle bells fool you. Though the melody is upbeat, it still has the full potential to have a good ol’ cry while trying to find happiness at the bottom of a box of mince pies. It’s a sad bop but we still love it regardless.
