You may not have heard of her just yet, but Nicole Bus is a name you need to make a mental note of. She’s just released her new album ‘KAIROS’ and is gearing up for her first-ever headline tour, which will see her make stops in 18 cities across the US.
The KAIROS era seems to be going quite well for Nicole. Since the release of ‘You’, the track jumped from No.4 to No.1 in just eight weeks on Billboard’s ‘Adult R&B Song’ chart, matching the fastest-rising Adult R&B No. 1 for a debut hit, where it remained No.1 for 5 weeks. She also recently debuted her latest song ‘Mr. Big Shot’ on NPR’s Tiny Desk series where she received a great deal of praise from the platform. If that wasn’t amazing enough, she’s now nominated as ‘Best New Artist’ at this year’s Soul Train Awards and is currently setting up for the release of the visual for ‘Rain’.
We managed to get a few minutes with the busy woman herself to have a quick chat about the new music, her upcoming tour, and which of her songs she thinks are great for when you’re feeling sad.
Hi Nicole! Can you introduce yourself to us in 240 characters (AKA the length of a tweet) or less?
Hi The Honey POP, my name is Nicole Bus. I’m from the Netherlands and I love to make music that makes people smile!
You’ve recently dropped your new album KAIROS. What kind of message are you aiming to get across with the record?
The team and I created an art piece that brought back break beats and sampling mixed with a powerful blend of songwriting and storytelling. I want people to feel good when they put on my music.
You helped co-produce ‘KAIROS’, what was that experience like? Was it something that you found you enjoyed or gave you a new appreciation for the process of actually creating a song or album?
‘KAIROS’ is the 6th project I’ve released and my biggest so far, to do this as a co-producer was pure bliss I enjoyed every step of the process.
Well, we certainly love it! You mentioned that you are hoping for people to feel loved and special whenever they listen to you. Which song of yours would you recommend that people listen to when they are sad or lonely?
That’s a hard one… but I would start off with ‘Love It’ because this song reminds you to appreciate the things you love. Then I would say listen to ‘SOS’ to be encouraged, followed up with ‘Stand Next To Me.’
We’re adding to our playlist right now! You’re going on tour early next year! What can we expect from your live shows?
It’s going to be fantastic, I can’t wait to meet my “Fan-ily.” The fans have been so lovely and supportive, I can’t wait to have this moment with them.
That’s so sweet! It’s gonna be amazing. What is the difference between performing around Europe and islands versus performing in the states? Are some places more emotionally charged than others?
I feel for now America is more emotionally charged because of the engagement I received in the States. But this can change whenever more people get acquainted with my music around the globe.
We feel like it won’t be long before the whole world is singing along! Finally, what can we expect from you in 2020?
More passion, dedication and live shows. Or better said – another beautiful piece of my puzzle.
Awesome – thanks, Nicole! We can’t wait to see how your 2020 unfolds.
KAIROS is out now. Tickets to ‘The Arise and Shine’ are available here.
