Billie Eilish is Billboard’s Woman of the Year 2019

Billie Eilish is Billboard’s Woman of the Year 2019

Two words have been heard all around the world this past year, one name has been inside of everybody’s mouth when talking about the best in the music industry. The one everyone, including myself, has been talking about, is none other than Billie Eilish, the new Billboard Woman of the Year 2019; the youngest artist to be given the award.

At this point, everybody knows who Billie Eilish is. She’s the spunky 17 (almost 18) year old that has rocked the world and gotten everybody’s attention. Working with her brother Finneas on her hit songs like ‘Bad Guy,’ ‘All the Good Girls Go to Hell,’ and her new song ‘Everything I Wanted;’ she has a quiet almost whispery voice as she sings over alternative rock music.

Billie is also the first artist born after year 2000 to debut with a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, so Billboard already had a sense of her power even before they called her Woman of the Year.

It’s Been a Whirlwind Year

I imagine Billie had a whirlwind year. First, she got a No. 1 debut album. What more could you want? Well, she’s also touring, performing at music festivals, even doing an interview with her idol and name sharer, Billie Joe Armstrong. Oh, and if you don’t think that’s enough, the girl has received nominations for six GRAMMYs. Even more, her first award show performance ever was at the AMAs just two days ago. And now, she’s Billboard’s Woman of the Year. All of that before she turns 18, man, she’s so much more productive than me.

It’s no secret why Billie is such a hit. She may be a little bit dark in her songs and videos, but people are drawn to the darker side and to things that haven’t been done before. Billie’s fanbase loves that she can have things a little creepy yet have a kind atmosphere. Also, if you know about her relationship with her brother, and the story behind ‘Everything I Wanted;’ then you’ll know that family is so important to her. I don’t know about you, but a 17 year old girl having her 22 year old brother as her best friend is the best thing in the world. Note-to-self: hang out with my brother more often so we can be best friends like Billie and Finneas.

She Breaks the Mold

Billboard’s Editorial Director said of Billie; “Her ability to speak to the Gen-Z population, making teens and young adults feel accepted in today’s society has quickly allowed Billie to grow to the top of the charts, breaking the mold for this generation with her electric hair-color and sharp attitude.

Honestly, I couldn’t agree more with Billboard’s Editorial Director. Billie is a total powerhouse in the music industry now, and we’ll all be on the watch to see what she does next. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be as remarkable as everything she’s done up to this point. Everything up to this point has led Billie Eilish to Billboard Woman of the Year, so I’d say if she does even better next year, she’ll be unstoppable. Actually, she already is.

You can watch Billie and Taylor Swift, the latter is receiving the first-ever Woman of the Decade, on the 14th Annual Billboard Women in Music Event on Dec. 12 by watching the livesteam on Youtube.com/Billboard
