Mulan, the disney heroine many of us know and love has been given a revamp. Many of us weren’t too happy to hear things were going to change for the live action version, but having seen the trailer. We are totally here for it!
Not only is she a kickass warrior, she is also princess that doesn’t rely on a man to save her. Now if that isn’t a role model then we don’t know what is.
This trailer is awesome from start to finish, and brings a whole new take on Mulan. Its darker, grittier and action packed.
Did we also mention that the cast is entirely asian, making it a win for diversity. Canadian Asian Liu Yifei has been cast as Mulan and boy is she is perfect for the role! A big thumbs up to Disney. This lady is insanely talented, beautiful and is definitely going to become the next big name in Hollywood.
From the moment the trailer starts you get a profound sense of honor, bravery and family, which is the theme throughout the movie.
‘Do you know why the phoenix sits on the right-hand of the Emperor? She is his guardian. His protector. She is both beautiful and strong. Your job is to bring honor to the family. Do you think you can do that?’Stunning quote from Mulan’s father.
So what’s new with Mulan?
We also see the addition of some new characters, the loss of some much loved characters (Mushu, Shang-li) and notably no singing.
One of the new characters is a witch (Xian Lang) that fights alongside the Huns leader Bori Khan played by Jason Scott Lee (who starred as Disney’s Mowgli in the 1994 Jungle Book remake). Ngl from the looks of things, she could well become a fan favorite!
For those fans that weren’t happy that Li- Shang had been left out, have no fear! There will be love in the air for Mulan and he comes in the form of Chen Honghui a fellow army recruit who becomes her ally/love interest.
Watching this trailer made our hearts swell with pride. In the background is a beautiful classical version of ‘Reflection,’ which is the perfect piece of rousing music to enhance the epicness of this trailer.
The great news is we don’t have to wait too long to see this masterpiece, as it’s in cinemas March 27th 2020.
