How To Get In the Holiday Spirit with your Favorite Fandoms

Here at The Honey POP we know that fandoms mean everything to us. Not even the promise of good food, presents, cheesy holiday movies, and quality family time can pull us away from our beloved fandoms. We admit it can be a little frustrating for those who don’t know what it’s like to be part of a fandom. Luckily, The Honey POP is here to help you combine your beloved faves with your holiday traditions! To do so, we’ve compiled a list of holiday fandom festivities that will be sure to get you into the holiday spirit!

Holiday Fandom Music Playlist

According to Buddy the Elf, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” Well, we certainly agree! Lucky for us it seems like everyone released a new holiday song this year making it easy for us to stream our favorite artists and get into the holiday spirit. We suggest making a festive holiday playlist on Spotify so you can stream your favorite songs all month long and maybe even convert some of your relatives to stan status!

Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of some of our favorite Holiday songs/albums from the artist/bands we stan.

° “Like It’s Christmas” – Jonas Brothers

° “Christmas Tree Farm” – Taylor Swift

° “Cozy Little Christmas” – Katy Perry

° “Not Another Christmas Song” – Blink 182

° Punk Goes Christmas – Fearless Records

° … And A Happy New Year EP – The Maine

° Seasons Greets from the Sandbar – We The Kings

° Merry Christmas – Mariah Carey

Holiday Fandom Merch

Another easy way to get into the holiday spirit is to dress in holiday attire! Sure, you could go to the store and buy an ugly sweater or cheesy holiday pun shirt but that’s too basic for us. What better way to get into the holiday spirit than by buying or making your own festive holiday merch!

Several artists have created their own lines of holiday-themed merch for their fans. Even the Jonas Brothers released a Christmas line earlier this month. Get your Christmas on in one of their ugly sweaters or cozy flannel pants.

Jonas Brothers not your fandom of choice? Don’t worry. Maybe you’re into Blink 182? Well, they’ve got you covered too! Taylor Swift? Yep, she’s got a holiday shirt for you too!

If you don’t celebrate Christmas it might be a bit harder to find the perfect fandom festive attire, but don’t give up hope! I found this super cute Harry Potter-themed Haunakkah shirt on TeePublic. Surely, you can do the same!

Even if your favorite artists/bands don’t have their own merch a quick Etsy or Redbubble search will definitely give you dozens of options for your perfect fandom festive outfit! And don’t forget, supporting Etsy and Redbubble helps small businesses, and often fellow fans like yourself!

And if that doesn’t work, you’re just gonna have to DIY it! Just remember you can’t sell your homemade designs if they contain copyrighted elements. Go nuts with your Cricuts and Photoshop but don’t use it as a way to make a quick buck for holiday money. You might get hit with a not-so-festive lawsuit if you do!

DIY Fandom Decorations

So you’ve got your festive fandom playlist and your festive fandom outfit, now you need your festive fandom holiday decorations! What better way to celebrate the season than to showcase your favorite fandoms!

An easy DIY project is to create your own ornament! There’s a couple of ways you can do this so we’re going to talk about both of them!

The first and simplest way is to print out some pictures of your favorite artists. You can cut them into cute designs (ie. hearts, snowflakes, stars) or you can keep them whole. We suggest laminating them but if you don’t have lamination sheets lying around you can use transparent tape to get the job done! Or, you can print them on heavy cardstock if you don’t want to laminate/tape them!

From there punch a hole into the top of the picture and either tie a piece of ribbon around it or use an ornament hook to hang your ornament on the tree!

The second way to make a fandom ornament is to use a clear ornament ball. Most craft stores sell plastic and glass versions that can be opened. We suggest plastic ones because they won’t break!

Once you’ve secured your ornament you can choose to fill it with whatever you think suits your fandom. Maybe cut out pictures of your favorite member to put inside. Have leftover confetti from a concert? Throw it in! You can even opt to use glitter or paper scraps!

Once the inside is filled, you can focus on the outside. You could leave it untouched so that it’s easy to see inside. Or, perhaps, you want to paint a name, lyrics, or a date on it. When I made my own ornament, I opted to use Glitter Glue which gave my words a pop of color and dimension! You can paint them on or write them on with a sharpie as well.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “I”m not a creative person at all!” Well, if that’s the case, head to Etsy because there are dozens of fans who sell their DIY ornaments for fans that aren’t as creative or don’t have the time!

Maybe Christmas trees aren’t your thing. You can try your hand at creating a festive fandom advent calendar by hiding different pictures of your favorites behind numbered pieces of paper.

Maybe you’re more the subtle type? Check out Etsy and Redbubble to see if you can a festive pillow with your favorites on it in a holiday theme, or maybe even a festive mug!

Fandom Inspired Cookie Decorating

No matter what holiday you’re celebrating I’m certain it involves cookies of some sort! Decorating cookies is another easy way to incorporate your fandoms into your holiday traditions.

Gingerbread cookies are a fun and easy way to show off your fandom in a festive light. All you need is gingerbread people, frosting, and a reference picture if you’re really detail-oriented.

I’ve been decorating fandom inspired gingerbread people for several years now and it’s one of my favorite things to do. 5SOS has been my favorite one to do!

If your family doesn’t decorate gingerbread, fear not! There are lots of other ways to incorporate your fandoms into your cookie decorating. You can put their initials on cookies with frosting or sprinkles. Or be a bit more subtle and do an abstract inspired theme for your fandom.

Holiday Inspired FanFic

After spending all that time with your friends and family you’re probably going to need some alone time. The holiday fandom spirit doesn’t have to end just because you’re alone though.

Keep the festive feeling alive by reading some holiday-inspired fanfics. Don’t play shy, you know they exist. I’m sure you’ve already got them bookmarked. And if you don’t check out Wattpad, Ao3, and Tumblr for all your festive fandom fanfic needs.

Don’t let the holidays stop you from being a stan. Get your festive fandom on!
