In just a few weeks we’ll be at the start of a new decade meaning it’s time for a whole host of new things. New goals, new chapters and, of course, new music. If you’re on the hunt for fresh new tunes and upcoming artists to give your playlist a whole makeover, we can help you out. Meet Johnny Utah.
Johnny is a 23-year-old indie-funk artist who is currently on the rise and set to be one of the hottest artists of 2020. He is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Jacob Sullenger and has been around since 2017, releasing a series of EPs and singles of all styles and moods while still sticking to the lo-fi pop roots and love washed lyricism.
Earlier this year saw him drop his single, the funky dance bop ‘Honeypie’, which earned him a lot of praise from the music industry. He’s now ending the year with a bang by dropping his latest track ‘4Tounce’, which takes a slower pace from his previous release though harbors just as much funk. The chilled bop sees Johnny reminisce on his past flings and the eventual feeling of malaise that came with them.
The song was first premiered by Zane Lowe on Beats 1 and is once again gaining Utah a lot of positive feedback from critics. He’s just dropped the accompanying music video which reflects his well known quirky humor and definitely one to turn heads when you’re flicking through the music channels.
