Stranger Things: We’re Not In Hawkins Anymore

Stranger Things left our heads spinning in July. Between new characters, new relationships, and the loss of both, there’s no telling what we can expect from season four.

Let’s recap! If you haven’t watched season three, be prepared for some spoilers.

The monster in season three, dubbed the mind flayer, is a bunch of borrowed body parts. Literally a stranger thing. Parts of the body are melted down from animals and deceased humans, compiled together in order to create a massive blob like monster. The kids of Hawkins are forced to fight for their and everyone else’s lives once again.

Another new monster added to the show is the Starcourt Mall. The mall has hidden tunnels underneath, sort of like the labs that we’ve seen in previous seasons in the Hawkins labs.

However, in these secret tunnels, Russians have invaded the city of Hawkins and plan to take over and open the gate to the upside down. The same gate that Elle worked so hard to close in season 2. Nose bleed and all. The portal is opened just enough for bits of the upside down to escape.

In order to close it , Joyce and Hopper have to disguise themselves as a Russians to sneak into the tunnel labs, along with Dustin, Steve, Erica, and Robin who also infiltrate the labs on accident. Don’t worry they’re fine … kinda.

Anyway, the season ends with three heart breaking losses. Including a crowd favorite, Billy, who sacrifices himself to save Eleven after he was possessed by the the mind flayer. In the midst of the sadness, Hopper also loses his life trying to save someone he loves. And lastly, Elle loses her powers.

The Byers family decides to pack up a U-Haul, and take the now-fatherless Eleven with them. That means splitting up Eleven and Mike, Jonathan and Nancy, and Will and his friends, ... Ugh … why.

We’ll let you watch the entire season three before we discuss it any further in detail, but until then, let’s discuss season four!

So what are we in for exactly? We actually have no clue. The Duffer brothers haven’t exactly given us a whole lot to go off of. What we can tell you is that we’re no longer in Hawkins. No really that’s what they said!

So here’s what we know so far. Most of our favorites are coming back for season 4. That includes: Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Will (Noah Schnapp), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Max (Sadie Sink), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Robin (Maya Hawke), Joyce (Winona Ryder), Erica (Priah Ferguson), Karen (Cara Buono) and Murray (Brett Gelman).

Millie Bobby Brown has made it very clear that she wants the ending to be undone in season four. With an interview with The Evening Standard, she told them that she really not happy.

“I was pissed. I read the script and I was like, ‘What, how is this even possible? Why are they moving away?”

She also revealed that that the ending of season 3 could be possible foreshadowing for the characters in season 4. Oh boy …

With that being said, we have some theories we want to discuss for season 4. First, if we’re not in Hawkins … then where are we? It’s hard to say since they left us with the Russian subplot after the ending credits of the season 3 finale. Maybe we’re in Russia now? However, it’s doubtful.

We never see Hopper’s body after he is “killed,” so it is possible that he could be returning. After all, in the subplot scene of the finale, we hear a Russian guard talking about “the American” … Sneaky sneaky sneaky … We also noticed that the scene in which Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) reads Hopper’s letter is accompanied by David Bowie’s ‘Heroes,’ the same song that played when Will’s “body,” later revealed to be a fake, was discovered in the lake in season 1. Perhaps reusing a song that already played over one misleading “death” is evidence that Hopper isn’t dead either.

So we know that the Russians were trying to open the gates, but why? Well, we think that they may be harboring mind flayers to create an army. Train them perhaps, brainwash, or keep them for a secret plan. Whatever it is we are ready to see the squad of kids take them down.
