Life is full of surprises, and so are these reviews. Some of you may not consider this a Christmas movie. Some of you may not have even heard of this one. That is why we’re here to keep you on your toes this holiday season. Our day 7 Christmas movie review begins during the Christmas shopping season and ends there too!
No, it’s not Die Hard today. Even though it is a Christmas movie! Don’t agree? Debate me on Twitter!
We’re heading to the East Coast to New York City, the Big Apple, the most aggressive city. Yet this movie is a love story.
What does that mean? Serendipity is fortune by accident. Like finding money in your pants pocket that you haven’t worn in some time. Or in John Cusack’s and Kate Beckinsale’s case, finding their soulmate by pure chance.
This Christmas rom-com does something different. The lovers aren’t together for most of the movie. I know that sounds hard to believe, but it works! After meeting by chance in a store while Christmas shopping, Jonathan and Sara explore their meeting further by putting it to destiny’s test. She picks a floor in a hotel and stays near the elevator waiting for Jonathan to pick the right floor. If he does, they’re meant to be, but he arrives too late and Sara goes on with her life. She moves out to the West Coast and finds her fiancé. Jonathan stays in New York and years later finds his.
As the weddings for each of them draw closer, signs appear to Jonathan and Sara. Subtleties that draw them closer and closer without ever intersecting. Signs of their first meeting appear like when Jonathan gets his hair cut by a new woman named Sara. Then when Sara’s engagement ring doesn’t fit, could this be a sign? Their best friends attempt to persuade them to give up and move on, but with each passing moment, deeper signs and connections appear until finally, the two soulmates find each other in the place they first connected, that fateful night in New York City.
Worth A Watch
Directed by Peter Chelsom in 2001, this movie holds up to this day. The connection between John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale will have you in tears, and the near misses will make your hands sweat. This Christmas rom-com is the perfect way to spread some hope this holiday season. It includes beautiful Christmas scenes and hilarious moments between John Cusack and Jeremy Piven, this movie is one of the best!
Our day 7 Christmas movie review was kept a little short! Serendipity is better viewed without knowing too much about it! Too many spoilers and twists will take away from your enjoyment. We at Honey Pop wouldn’t want to ruin the experience for first-time viewers!
