Narcos: Mexico Season 2 Release Date Revealed

If you absolutely can’t wait to see what comes next, Netflix has revealed a first look image.

The Narcos: Mexico Season 2 release comes a year after the first season, which marked season four of Narcos, aired. The second season will introduce Scoot McNairy as the new DEA agent in charge, Walt Breslin, pictured below. Breslin’s introduction follows, spoiler alert, the death of Micheal Peña’s character, DEA Agent Kiki Camarena at the hands of narco Félix Gallardo, played by Diego Luna.

Narcos: Mexico switched things up from the source content, going back in time to the 1980s in order to trace the origins of the Guadalajara cartel and the Mexican drug war. It follows the story of Luna’s Félix Gallardo, who was one of the biggest narcos in Mexico’s history and the founder of the modern drug trade in Mexico. His constant battle with DEA agents, such as Camarena and Breslin is some of the main conflict in the show. The show also features recognizable faces from Narcos‘ past, including Pablo Escobar (played by Wagner Moura) and the Cali cartel.

Showrunner Eric Newman kept details about Scoot McNairy’s casting and character a very well kept secret following his reveal during the season one finale. As the second season’s release approaches, we’re starting to get pieces of what to expect from the new season. Agent Breslin’s speech in the finale of the first season explains that what happened in the early 80s in Guadalajara gave rise to the cartels as well as the drug war. Newman says that Narcos: Mexico attempts to explain both sides of the “failed war on drugs” as well as how the modern drug violence in Mexico started. The second season will continue to explore the events that led up to today.

While there’s no trailer for season 2 yet, here’s the trailer for season 1 to get yourself hyped!

The Narcos: Mexico Season 2 release date is right around the corner and we can’t wait. We’re definitely going to have to binge the first season to prepare for whatever happens next.
