Can you believe another year is over? And what a year it’s been for Little Mix! The girls may not have dropped an album this year, but that doesn’t mean they’ve not been super busybodies and we’ve had so many iconic moments that it’s only fair to look back at some of the best…
The BRIT Awards
When it comes to performances, Little Mix slay it and this year’s BRIT Awards were no exception! Jesy, Leigh-Anne, Jade and Perrie proved to the nation once again just why they are one of the greatest girlbands to exist by delivering this stunning performance of ‘Woman Like Me’. While Nicki Minaj couldn’t make it to rap her verse, the girls invited Ms Banks to take over to make sure they could include the legendary verse.
Of course, other than wowing us with their incredible talent, the girls took home the BRIT Award for ‘British Video of the Year’ for ‘Woman Like Me’ and we have been so thrilled ever since!
After teasing their first single since ‘LM5’ on social media and a snippet at BBC R1’s Big Weekend, the girls finally dropped ‘Bounce Back’, a taster of what we can expect from their upcoming yet-to-be-named album and their first under their new record label. The music video is arguably their best yet with stunning visuals and outfits and the song kickstarted Summer 2019, where we were bouncing all over the place, finding reasons to kick beach balls whenever one was in reach!
‘Wasabi’ Performance on ‘LM5: The Tour’
Okay, we all know how incredible ‘LM5: The Tour’ was. It was phenomenal. But one moment which went viral was the performance of ‘Wasabi’. Little Mix are known to be criticized by the media and boomers alike for literally anything and everything, with Piers Morgan being one of their biggest critics of them all. So, for their iconic song ‘Wasabi’ from LM5, the girls took the tyrants of Piers and turned it into the interlude video which lead to the stunning performance of the song. Of course, the girls absolutely smashed it with the vocals, choreography, and outfits, too, but this was such a statement and Mixers went wild for it!
Jesy’s ‘Odd One Out’ Documentary
While Little Mix rose to fame and could claim it was the best thing that could happen to them, for Jesy it wasn’t the same thing. For years she dealt with the struggles of online bullying which severely impacted her mental health and the relationship she had with herself and her body. It’s been a rocky ride for her for years but after finally finding her feet on the journey of recovery and self-acceptance, Jesy teamed up with BBC Three to create the documentary ‘Odd One Out’. It was a highly courageous move for her to make in order to show the world – as well as her fans – the true impact of online trolling. It got the world talking more and won awards including ‘Best Documentary’ at the I Talk Telly Awards, and Jesy herself won ‘Celeb of the Year’ presented by Metro for her work on the documentary. We are beyond proud of you, Jesminda!
The Fan Proposal
During the Manchester date of ‘LM5: The Tour’ Little Mix proved how incredible they are and how much their songs mean to fans when they helped set up a proposal at the show! They “randomly” picked two fans – Tom and Adam – to speak to in which they found a happy couple who were also Mixers. The girls asked them some questions before they asked Tom if there was anything he’d like to say to his boyfriend, in which HE ONLY WENT AND FLIPPING PROPOSED! And in front of an entire arena! Of course, Adam said yes and the girls and the fans got so excited. What made it more special was it was right before the song they claim as theirs ‘Secret Love Song Pt II’. We’re still emotional over it all, tbh.
BBC R1’s Big Weekend
Little Mix are often performing at festivals and BBC R1’s Big Weekend is one which they really shone this year. When it comes to festivals, it’s important for artists to give it their all to show those non-fans just why they should be stanning them. Lucky for those of us who couldn’t attend, the entire set was televised so we were all blessed with their live performance. Wigs: SNATCHED.
‘Power’ Featuring Stormzy LIVE
No matter what music Little Mix release for the rest of their careers, their single ‘Power’ will forever remain a certified bop and one of their greatest hits ever. At one of their London dates of ‘LM5: The Tour’, the girls brought out Stormzy for him to rap his verse LIVE IN PERSON rather than just the girls strutting their stuff to the audio! We all lost the meaning of the word “chill’ and we really hope this happens again during the girls’ ‘Summer 2020’ tour.
