Have you ever felt so smug because you’ve suggested an artist to people when they were new and then they’ve gone and gained global success? That’s pretty much how we’re feeling about Lewis Capaldi right now.
Last year saw Lewis Capaldi take the hearts of the world with his single ‘Someone You Loved’. It earned the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 which made him the first British person in two years to hit the number one spot and first Scottish person in 11 years. Other big brags under his belt include spending seven weeks at number 1 on the UK Official Charts, winning the BBC Sound of 2019 Poll and Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the Scottish Music Awards. Oh, and he’s been nominated for a GRAMMY, too.
Now, just three days into 2020, it looks like Lewis is ready to receive just as much success – if not more – as he earns himself the first number one album of the decade! His debut album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, was named the UK’s biggest album of 2019, with more than 641,000 combined sales since it released back in May. The album is now sitting pretty on the top spot once again, 33 weeks after its initial release and earning Lewis his seventh non-consecutive week. WE STAN A LEGEND.
The news comes the same day as the announcement that he will be performing at this year’s Coachella on the Friday of both Weekends 1 and 2, where he will be joined by the likes of fellow Scotsman Calvin Harris, Megan Thee Stallion, BIGBANG, BROCKHAMPTON, and the headliners, Rage Against The Machine. There’s something quite exciting about the fact that the Scottish singer-songwriter who we can all see as someone we’re best buds with is gonna be gracing the stage at one of the world’s biggest festivals alongside some names of artists who have been in the game for years. We are so freaking proud!
