We all know that the mantra that Harry Styles made famous is “Treat People With Kindness” but he doesn’t just say it for clout – he truly practices what he preaches and already in 2020 he’s been doing just that.
While on vacation with Adele and James Corden in Anguilla, Harry Styles went out to a local restaurant, as one does on their vacay, and left his waiter the generous tip of $2,020 on after picking up the check while leaving the note “Happy New Year!” YUP. He really did that.
We wanna act shocked and like this is such a wild thing, but any fan of Harry Styles knows that this is just the kinda guy he is, you know? In fact, this is one of the many times that he’s lived up to his mantra and we think now is a good a time as any to take a look back on just some of the times Harry Styles has proven that he’s our ‘Only Angel’…
1. When he gave his BRIT Award to Olly Murs
Between his whirlwind of a career with One Direction and then going solo, Harry has had the privilege to pick up many awards in his time, including a few BRITs on the way. So when he won the award for Best Music Video at the 2018 ceremony, good pal and fellow singer Olly Murs picked the award up in H’s absence. He joked about how he was going to keep it (after being snubbed for a big win in 2013 which he was tipped to take home) but when it came to the actual awards (not the dummy ones used during the award shows), Harry did the sweetest thing.
Speaking to Fabulous, Olly confessed the good deed that Harry did. “I said on the stage ‘I’ve never won a BRIT so I am taking this one home’ – and obviously I didn’t do that! About a month later I received a parcel from Harry and he’d written a note saying ‘You can have one of mine.’ He’d had the engraving changed so it reads: ‘Sign of the Times, Harry Styles for Olly Murs.’ That says a lot about Harry. He’s a gent.” A GENT.
2. When he stopped a show to see to a fan having a panic attack
We all know that it can get a little crazy at concerts – especially during a GA – so when performing a show in London back in 2017, Harry noticed a fan was struggling as she was being crushed which sent her into a panic attack. Mid song, Harry called out, saying: “Is everyone OK? You still with me? Do you want to help her up? If everyone could give her some space. If everyone could chill for one second, we’ll get some people.”
The fan later took to Twitter to both explain the situation fully and thank Harry for helping her, saying: “Harry Styles stopped his entire show because I got crushed and then watched me being pulled over the barrier. That was one of the most horrendous panic attacks I’ve ever had like even the medics were terrified of the state I was in… I’m so grateful to Harry for having such a pure heart and stopping the show to get security to help me.”
Literally, a king.
3. When he grew his hair long and then cut it off in the name of charity
Remember the “long hair, don’t care” phase towards the end of One Direction? He ended up cutting it all off just before his solo career kicked off and donated it to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides children and young people who have dealt with hair loss with real hair wigs. Some people said that was the full purpose for him growing his hair long to begin with while others say he just wanted to rock the look. Whatever the reason, the end result was for an amazing cause and we are so proud!
4. When he helped a fan come out to her mother
Who could forget the time when a fan let Harry know that she planned on coming out to her parents? Rather than just congratulating her, Harry took it upon himself to get the whole venue on board to help break the news to her mother by shouting out “TINA, SHE’S GAY!” (in hopes that she’d hear it all the way in her hotel room). Needless to say the video went viral and the fan did come out to her mother who was supportive. The fact artists like Harry are able to have that kind of impact is powerful!
5. When he donated over $1.2 million to charities from tour
During his 10 month stint on his first solo world tour, Harry sold just under 1 million tickets across 89 shows where the proceeds from that and the TPWK hair ties, combined with contributions from Live Nation and GLSEN PRIDE campaign together donated to 62 charities around the world! The charities covered a variety of causes including cancer research, food banks, youth projects, refugee support, children’s hospitals and even emergency funds following the attacks at Manchester and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. So many worthy causes were supported all because of this man. How can you not stan?
6. When he literally brought a girl on stage just to sign her cast
During a performance with One Direction on their ‘Where We Are’ Tour, Harry noticed a little girl at their Chicago show who had broken her arm. He wanted to know how it happened (a bounce house – we’ve all been there) and he asked if he could sign her cast. He then continued to make the girl’s wildest dreams come true by bringing her on stage in the stadium in front of thousands of people to sign her cast and where the rest of the band also joined in on the interaction. We hope this fan will cherish this blessing for the rest of her days and that she kept her cast once it came off!
7. Literally any interaction with a child ever
Have you seen Harry Styles around kids? It’s a truly incredible thing to witness. Literally, just put any child in front of this man and he will be wrapped around their fingers We all saw him with the hairdresser of One Direction, Lou Teastale’s daughter, Lux as she grew up in front of the fandom’s eyes and he was besotted with her. There are so many moments that we had to share a compilation with you so your hearts could melt, too.
If you weren’t already a stan before, then this surely should persuade you to be one now!
