15 Things We Learned From Halsey’s ‘Road to Manic’ Series

Our queen is releasing her third album, and she’s just as excited about it as we are! In anticipation of Manic, Halsey released the YouTube web series Road to Manic documenting the whirlwind of events leading up to the release of her album.

Halsey tells the story of Manic, giving us some insight into the creation of the album, and her journey through the process. Here are 15 things we learned from Road to Manic.

1. MANIC IS NOT GONNA BE SAD & DARK

In fact, she said it’s “really colorful, and kinda funny sometimes.” Like me!!

2. THE ALBUM’S SUUUPER PERSONAL

“It’s scary because it’s so much of me so if people don’t like it, it feels like they don’t like me.”

3. SHE FEELS LIKE PEOPLE DON’T REALLY KNOW HER

She considers herself a very honest and open artist, yet still feels like people only know 2% of her.

4. SHE CHANGES HER MIND … A LOT

She wanted to create an album full of songs that change their minds, track to track, as much as she does.

5. NOT EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY

The hectic life of an artist isn’t always easy. She’s not with fans who understand her every day. Sometimes she’s fighting with people to give a shit about the human thing that she’s done.

6. SHE’S NOT IMMUNE TO THE OCCASIONAL EXISTENTIAL CRISIS

They usually come in her first moment of silence after working for 10 days straight. I feel that honestly.

7. IT TAKES SACRIFICE TO MAKE AN ALBUM

“I spent more time in Nashville the past couple months than I have home.” Now that’s dedication to the art.

8. SHE APPROACHED THIS ALBUM DIFFERENTLY

She just didn’t think about the genre; didn’t think about a certain kind of person liking it. She just made what felt right to her and honestly? I support.

9. HER CHOREOGRAPHER, DANNY, IS ON THE SAME WAVELENGTH AS HER

Danny lets Halsey’s body think so for a while her brain doesn’t have to. She understands the way Halsey likes to communicate, and that greatly enhances each unique performance.

10. SHE GIVES A HELL OF A PEP TALK

“Just know you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing. Have confidence in that fact.” Don’t mind me, just tearing up over here.

11. SHE WORKED KIDS’ BIRTHDAY PARTIES

She used to face paint at kids’ birthday parties as a job and look where she is now. Don’t give up on your dreams, kids.

12. SHE STILL HAS FANGIRL MOMENTS

Hence, sprinting after Pink backstage at an award show, and giddily recalling performing live with T-Swift.

13. BTS AND HALSEY ARE TOTALLY TWINNING

BTS gifted Halsey her own sparkly mic to match theirs the first time they ever performed “Boy With Love” together so she wouldn’t feel left out and in return, she got them Christmas stockings like she makes for her two little brothers. How cute!

14. SHE’S BEEN SECRETIVE FOR A REASON

She wants everyone to get to know her all at once, so she hasn’t been dropping hints on the album for fans to figure out this time around.

15. SHE’S EVOLVED AS AN ARTIST & MUSICIAN

She’s so excited to tour this album because it’s so personal and fun to her. Plus, she’s playing lots of instruments live.

We’re even more hype for the album release now!

[…] Halsey has finally dropped her third studio album and it is arguably her best record yet. Manic acts as an autobiographical depiction of the songstress as it dives into the mind of a twenty-something who yearns for love and affection. Written as an album “from Ashley to Halsey”, it gives us a more in-depth view of the woman behind the Halsey persona in which Ashley Nicolette has built over the years. The eclectic sound of the record is confirmation that Halsey is a chameleon in which she can adapt to any genre given to her and smash it. Every… Read more »
