Get Excited For The BRITs With Our Nominees Playlist!

BRITs Nominees 2020 Playlist

It’s that time of year again – The BRITs are around the corner and the nominees have been announced! For those who aren’t aware, The BRIT Awards are the biggest night in British music and are a pretty big deal. The ceremony will be taking place at The O2, London, where a star-studded line up of both performers and guests alike will unite under one roof to celebrate the incredible music and artists who have been on their game and releasing certified bops over the last 12 months.

Taking the lead on nominations is our boy Lewis Capaldi with four nominations! For those who remember, last year he lost the Critics Choice Award and often made jokes about it during interviews, so this is a pretty big glow up for him as well as a nod to his incredibly successful 2019.

Other big nominations include Mr Harry Styles who is up for both ‘Male Artist of the Year’ and ‘Album of the Year’, Mabel with ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Female Solo Artist of the Year’, and ‘Best New Artist’, and Stormzy with ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Male Solo Artist’.

To get excited about the big event, we’ve created a playlist for you full of the nominees. Whether you love them already or looking to discover someone new, you can find it all in our playlist! Here are some of our faves that are calling out to your eardrums.

‘Adore You’ – Harry Styles

Harry Styles broke the internet with the lead up to this single, with the mysterious non-existent island of Eroda leaving conspiracy theorists around the world totally baffled until eagle-eyed fans noticed the connections between the information linked to the site and Harry, and obviously they were right! The jaunty pop banger was made it to number 7 of the UK Official Charts and number one on the UK Radio Airplay Chart, and was certified Gold by the ARIAs over in Australia. It was also one of the contributing songs which scored H seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100. With two members of the Royal Family stepping down, we may have found a potential for a new Prince Harry!

‘Before You Go’ – Lewis Capaldi

Fallen in love with the sound of Lewis Capaldi‘s heavenly voice but want to find a song which isn’t ‘Someone You Loved‘? ‘Before You Go’ is the new tear-jerking single from self-proclaimed America’s Sweetheart that shares the devastating thoughts that people have after the tragic loss of a loved one. The single has spent 8 weeks on the UK Official Charts on the Top 20 before peaking at number 2 and spending a collective 4 weeks there. The song was also BRIT Certified Silver and his 8th single to receive a certification from the British Phonographic Industry.

‘Stop This Flame’ – Celeste

This hot new track comes from the winner of the Rising Star Award! American-born British singer Celeste was announced as the recipient of the award before the ceremony and will be the first of this category to be offered a slot to perform on the night. This week she dropped this piano-driven R’n’B banger which has brightened up our January blues already and is a great introduction to Celeste as an artist if you’re looking for someone new to stan. Other promises that she’s destined for stardom is that she has also just been crowned the winner of BBC Music’s Sound of 2020, so now is the perfect time to get into her music!

‘Don’t Call Me Up’ – Mabel

We’ve been a fan of Mabel since we discovered her when opening for fellow BRIT nominee Harry Styles on the UK leg of his 2018 world tour and have been obsessed ever since. This Reggaetón trop-pop bop was quite a big hit for the songstress. As well as peaking at number 3 in the UK and making it onto Billboard’s Hot 100, the song also received seven certifications, including a BRIT Certified Platinum and MC Certified 2x Platinum. We predict that Mabel is only going to get bigger and better from here and we can hardly wait!

‘Boyfriend’ – Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande is one of the biggest pop divas of our generation and seems to be getting bigger and better every year. 2019 saw her win her first GRAMMY and earn herself a further four nominations for the 2020 ceremony, including for this banger! ‘Boyfriend’ is her 23rd single to be BRIT Certified (with another single after earning her a total of 24 BRIT Certified singles), earning the song a silver status. It spent 11 weeks on the UK Official Charts, where it peaked at number 4 and number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed on the charts for 12 weeks. We can’t wait to see what she does in 2020!

‘Juice’ – Lizzo

2019 was arguably the year of Lizzo. She rapidly became a global phenomenon in a short space of time and released her debut album Cuz I Love You. ‘Juice’ may not have had the success in which ‘Good As Hell‘ did, but the groovy banger still earned itself a BRIT Certified Silver alongside being Certified Platinum by MC and RIAA. Just like any other Lizzo bop, you can expect the feel-good vibes to take over any mood you are currently feeling and honestly, we think it truly deserves to be hyped up even more.

‘Vossi Bop’ – Stormzy

Making his return to the spotlight last year, king of grime Stormzy dropped the big track to make a statement that he’s back and ready to dominate once more. The trap-heavy track proved to be big amongst Brits as it peaked at number 1 on the UK Official Charts and spent 34 weeks on the chart overall. It’s no surprise that the track was BRIT Certified Platinum but also earned the ARIA Certified Gold status over in Australia. It’s definitely time for America to open its arms to Stormzy and appreciate Grime as a genre just a little bit more.
