Bands On The Rise: 10 Up and Comers You NEED To Start Stanning

2020 signals the start of a new decade, and with that comes new music. We here at The Honey Pop are always in search of new talent to fuel our various moods and playlists, so we decided it would be cool to keep our eyes and ears peeled to scope out some bands on the rise, some new recruits if you will. We were not disappointed as we came out on the other side carrying gold and gems!

Without further ado, we are pleased to introduce you to 10 of our favorite up and coming bands (that you may or may not have heard of) that you need to start stanning immediately!

Forever Emerald

Forever Emerald is a pop-rock group formed out of Los Angeles, California, at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Their debut EP, Safer Space, released back in 2019, and it includes some amazing tracks such as ‘Candy,’ ‘Safer Space,’ and ‘Arts & Crafts.’ Their musical influences range from Paramore to You Me At Six, and with such a range of musical backgrounds, they bring diverse and raw energy to the stage. Just check out their latest single, ‘Candy,’ and see for yourself. Forever Emerald brings a unique sound to the pop-rock industry, and we are so stoked to see what all is in store for them this year. Hopefully, we’ll be getting our hands on a full-length album sooner rather than later, and we’d also love to see them on tour! Maybe they’ll get the chance to tour with some of our faves, Hayley Williams, perhaps?

The Modrn

Next on the list, we present The Modrn, and in case these guys look familiar, you may know them by their old name, Palm Trees & Power Lines. Under the old moniker, the pop-punk band released 2 EP’s and even toured with Brendon Urie. They also served us the bop, ‘Animalistic,’ which is the ultimate pop-punk anthem, and could be heard playing throughout Journey’s stores everywhere across the US. In 2018, the band decided to break away from their pop-punk roots and start creating music influenced by other genres such as pop, EDM, R&B, and hip-hop. With new inspirations, a new sound, and a new image, the group decided to re-brand. That same year, they released their first EP under the new name entitled Do or Die. It offered us a 4 song lineup, including the title track ‘Do or Die’ and ‘Never Goodbye.’ While we’re sad to see the pop-punk sound we grew to love say goodbye, we are ecstatic for the band’s new music, and hopefully, as 2020 rolls on they’ll serve us up some new anthems!

Recess is a young, self-produced pop band that formed in 2008 out of Cleveland, Ohio. They’ve been on local and national radio/tv stations, and have also performed at the infamous Viper Room and House of Blues. The band released their debut EP Boundary Lane in 2018, and it featured hits such as ‘Waitin,’ ‘Story Goes,’ and ‘Is It Fate.’ The band’s most recent EP, From Dust To Gold, was released in 2019 and is full of some of the best songs we’ve heard from the band so far. ‘When The Sky Comes,’ ‘The One I Love,’ and ‘Leaving Home’ are just some of our favorites off this 5 song EP. Recess has also performed in various states all over the country, including as a supporting act for Davy Jones of The Monkees.

With musical influences such as Bruno Mars, Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran, we can guarantee this band is getting ready to take the music industry by storm, and we are going to be here cheering them on. The band is extremely active and involved with their fans on Twitter, so once you start stanning, don’t forget to drop them a line, and they may even answer your burning questions!

With Confidence

With Confidence is an Australian pop-punk band from Sydney, formed in 2012. They got their start in April 2013 by posting videos on YouTube, and eventually released their debut EP Youth in July of that year, which received national airplay on Australian radio. Alongside the release of the band’s EP, they went on their first tour supporting The Never Ever and went on to play local supports for 5 Seconds Of Summer, The Getaway Plan, and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Whoa, and that’s just the BEGINNING of their career, talk about amazing! The band signed with Hopeless Records in 2016, and released their debut album Better Weather, which includes one of our favorite songs, ‘Voldemort.’

The band has kept busy over the years, other then a brief break they took in 2017, but in August 2018, they released their sophomore album, Love and Loathing, which featured hit singles ‘Jaded’ and ‘That Something.’ Also, in November 2019, they dropped a cover of ‘Drops Of Jupiter’ by Train, and we have never heard such an amazing cover! We are so hyped for the band to release new music of their own, whenever that maybe, but we are sitting on the edge of our seats in anticipation!

Last Night Saved My Life is an alt-pop band from Michigan that formed in 2010. They released their debut EP, What Started It All, back in 2013, which featured some amazing songs, such as ‘Alive & Young,’ ‘Solid Ground,’ and ‘Nosotros.’ Their debut album Cherry dropped in 2019, and again the band delivered us an album full of bops on a silver platter! Some of our favorites include ‘On The Ropes,’ ‘Daydream,’ ‘Brightside,’ and ‘Undone.’ The group has also lent their talent to performances with so many iconic groups, including State Champs, Neck Deep, Knuckle Puck, and Greta Van Fleet. Their repertoire is extensive, and we could go on forever just talking about them, but we think, instead, you should just go check them out for yourself!

4th and Orange are a SoCal reggae-pop band and was co-founded by longtime friends Garrett Douglas and Chris “DJ Irey” Garcia, they take inspiration from their hometown heroes Sublime, and merge that sound with their own, making for a one-of-a-kind sound. They eventually ended up going their separate ways in the music industry until 2019, when the two reunited to form the group that we now know as 4th and Orange. The group released their debut single ‘Girl Next Door’ earlier last year and have since gone on to release four other singles. Most recently, ‘In The LBC,’ which pays homage to their hometown of Long Beach, California. We are looking forward to whatever 2020 has in store for this SoCal group, and we know you will love them, too!

The Rubies

The Rubies are an all-girl pop group out of Provo, Utah. Before the band’s formation, its founding members, Colette and Aubrey, had already been writing music together with the set goal in mind to add more members to the group. It took the girls about a year to finally find two other girls they clicked with, but in 2017 they met Esther and Avery and completed the four-piece as we know them today. The girls strive to promote female success in music and hope to inspire others through their music. This group offers us up a much softer sound than the other bands mentioned in this list so far, but their ethereal, smooth vocals and flawless, ambient instrumentals tug on the heartstrings of every listener. That’s something that is going to set them apart from other girl groups in the industry, and we are impatiently standing by to see them soar to new heights.

Calloway Circus is an alt-pop duo out of St. Louis, Missouri, and they have been on our radar for quite some time now. They’ve been on the scene since 2015, and have since released 2 LPs, several singles, and most recently their debut album Entropy, which you can stream here! The duo found fast success from their hometown shows that they went to headlining sold-out shows just a year later. In 2018, they went on their first tour and played shows from coast to coast in North America. We have no doubt there will be no slowing this duo down as they continue to have endless success in 2020, and we know you are going to love them as much as we do!

Saint PHNX

Saint PHNX might seem familiar to some of you, and that’s because this rock duo has previously supported Imagine Dragons and YUNGBLUD on tour. The band formed in 2016 out of Glasgow and has since gone on to win the hearts of fans worldwide. Their debut album, DDMN, was released on January 31 and offers us a one-of-a-kind sound. You can stream the album here but prepare for Saint PHNX to blow your mind. The duo brings enough fire to cover a full-size band, and they bring with them relatable lyricism and hardcore choruses and sick beats. Their sound is similar to that of Imagine Dragons, and we fully predict a successful career for this duo. We are excited to see where 2020 takes them!
