Fresh Music Friday: Louis Tomlinson, BTS, Jonas Brothers, and MORE!

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

‘Walls’ – Louis Tomlinson

With just a week to go until his debut album Walls releases, Louis Tomlinson has just released the album’s title track as a single and boy is it full of emotions. With a big Oasis influence, the Doncaster darling sings about the challenges of a relationship and how in the long run they make you stronger. The rock-pop track is quite slow in comparison to previous singles from both the album and his entire discography, showing a softer and more vulnerable side to the One Direction star. The orchestra blends in so well with the guitar and makes for a perfect single to make pop for the cool kids again. We know this is going to be a song that will have just as big of an impact when performed live as it does on the studio version and that will make for the perfect crowd atmosphere which connects both him and his fans in a beautiful moment.

‘Black Swan’ – BTS

BTS have made their comeback and we are so stoked to have them blessing us so early on in 2020! Their new single is the first from their upcoming project Map of the Soul: 7 and is a perfect example as to why BTS are at the top of their game right now. Blending classical music with modern pop, ‘Black Swan’ is a stunning piece of artistry unlike anything else that the group has released. The song – co-written and co-composed by group leader RM – ‘Black Swan’ conveys the torment of drifting away from one’s passion. If this single is anything to go by, we are going to see a whole new side of BTS this comeback era, and quite frankly we cannot wait!

‘What’s a Man Gotta Do’ – Jonas Brothers

Calling all men wanting to make a statement this upcoming Valentine’s Day to their significant others, the Jonas Brothers have got your back! Dropping the follow up from their festive bop Like It’s Christmas, the brothers are back and are shouting from the rooftops about that feeling of being in love. The jaunty new track can be seen as the perfect statement about how each member feels about their respective wives and that peak of being in love and is accompanied by the sweetest video which pays tribute to some of the most iconic rom-coms, such as Grease, Risky Business, and Say Anything. The hooky bop is contagious and likely to get hands clapping and feet tapping, if not causing you to bust a move wherever you listen to it (we may have even had a cheeky little hand jive when we first listened…) A certified bop for sure!

‘Manic’ – Halsey

Halsey has finally dropped her third studio album and it is arguably her best record yet. Manic acts as an autobiographical depiction of the songstress as it dives into the mind of a twenty-something who yearns for love and affection. Written as an album “from Ashley to Halsey”, it gives us a more in-depth view of the woman behind the Halsey persona in which Ashley Nicolette has built over the years. The eclectic sound of the record is confirmation that Halsey is a chameleon in which she can adapt to any genre given to her and smash it. Every song is different in its own way – from the country vibes of ‘You Should Be Sad’ to the rock components of ‘3AM’ – which is what makes us love the album so much. So much so, that we’ve declared the album qualifies for “no skips”!

‘Me & You Together Song’ – The 1975

Love is a common theme here at Fresh Music Friday and The 1975’s latest bop is no exception. The bouncy bop could easily be mistaken for the soundtrack from a fluffy rom-com with some kind of montage about a couple of friends realizing their chemistry is more than just platonic. The song sings about a story of romance where Matty dreams about being with a girl he’s in love with, even if she doesn’t reciprocate the feelings. The jangling guitars and bouncy tempo gives the track a summery feel, and we can definitely see this being a song everyone will still be jamming to even six months down the line as if it had just been released.

‘Circles’ – Mac Miller

While we always knew that listening to Mac Miller‘s posthumous album was going to be difficult, it feels like this was the perfect farewell from the late rapper. Circles is a joyous honoring of the artist who had the capability to bring smiles to everyone’s faces, yet still is a woeful collection of songs, in which could have been the leadup to his future projects and continuation in growth as an artist should he still be here today. The decision by Miller’s family to release the project couldn’t have been an easy decision to make, though we all know in our hearts its what he would have wanted. In his sixth studio album, we are given the chance to see what is potentially his most vulnerable compilation of music to date where he leaves behind his earlier frat-rap approach and made more jazz music a prime focus in his sound. The album feels like it gives Mac’s fans a bit more closure following the sudden loss, as if it were a final goodbye, which really ends his showcase of music on a high.

‘Sad Tonight’ – Chelsea Cutler

‘Sad Tonight’ is the latest offering from Chelsea’s long-awaited debut album How To Be Human – which also dropped today – and is a buoyant break-up song which normalizes the negative feelings that we have when a relationship comes to an end. It’s refreshing to hear more positivity towards not being okay sometimes and this synth-pop bop has is both crying while busting a move as Chelsea gives us the okay to sit with our feelings.

‘Blink’ – Meghan Trainor

We are days away from her new studio album Treat Myself and Meghan Trainor has decided to treat us with her new single ‘Blink’. The dubstep-inspired banger is a motivational anthem that sees Miss Trainor offer a trail of confident lyrics in where she lets us know that she’s fully aware of her worth in this catchy bop. Definitely one to add to your self love playlists!

‘Let Me Down Slow’ – New Hope Club, R3HAB

In this week’s Fresh Music Friday, New Hope Club has blessed us with yet another impressive single. ‘Let Me Down Slow’ is an upbeat, emotional dance track that speaks on a fading romance that is inevitably going to come to end. The trio’s ethereal vocals blend perfectly with the spunky guitar riff and the beautiful melody. R3HAB has really enhanced this track with his remixed beats, and catchy electro-pop sound. The band’s highly-anticipated album is finally being released later this year, and if ‘Let Me Down Slow’ is any indication as to what is in store for us on the rest of their album, then we’re going to need some tissues.

‘Tattoos Together’ – LAUV

LAUV has delivered us another bop on this week’s Fresh Music Friday. ‘Tattoos Together’ is an upbeat, pop dance ballad that grabs your attention from the beginning with a playful drum beat layered under LAUV’s smooth vocals. He sings about a reminiscent time of getting tattoos with a significant other as a way to remember each other, and their time together should something happen between them. This track is in precedence to his debut studio album ‘How I’m Feeling’ set to release March 6. ‘Tattoos Together’ is a good indication that LAUV is going to continue to serve us bops forever, and we are living for it.
