Yes, this is not a drill. You did read that correctly. The legendary Beastie Boys have paired up with iconic academy award-winning, Spike Jonze for a live documentary that seems set to captivate us from the get-go!
Apple announced recently that it has acquired Beastie Boys Story, which is described as a nonfiction film from GRAMMY award winning members Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz in collaboration with Spike Jonze. A special cut of the documentary feature will open exclusively in select IMAX® theatres for a limited engagement April 3, before premiering globally on Apple TV+ on April 24, 2020.
The film premieres on the heels of the 26th anniversary of the release of Beastie Boys No.1 charting 1994 album, Ill Communication and reunites the duo with Spike over 25 years after directing the music video for the immortal single, ‘Sabotage.’
Speaking about the film Mike and Adam say, “There are some friends you have lunch with so many times over the years, you know their order. Spike is one of those friends. And even when you don’t recognize anything on the menu, he comes up with something good for the whole table. Like when we wondered what to do when our book comes out… then Spike placed his order: You will put on a show for the children.”
“I owe Beastie Boys a lot. One time, they pulled me out of a burning ship, and another time they helped me cheat on my college exam to get into Florida State. So, it was a real privilege to get to reunite with them and help them tell their story.” Adds Spike Jonze.
All we can say is we are EXCITED to see what has been created and April cannot arrive sooner!
If you’re not going to be watching at the theater, you will be able to view via Apple TV+, which is available on the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, as well as select Samsung smart TVs, Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices and at tv.apple.com
