There Will Be A Grammy Tribute For Nipsey Hussle

2019 was a devastating year for most of us. We lost so many talented artists — one of them being Nipsey Hussle. Nipsey played an enormous part in his community as a rapper, entrepreneur, and activist. He made a long-lasting impact on hip-hop culture, and we will never forget his music, actions, or his heart. In honor of such a legend, The Recording Academy® has announced that there will be a special tribute taken place.

Six incredible artists are honoring him at The 62nd GRAMMY Awards: DJ Khaled, Kirk Franklin, John Legend, Meek Mill, Roddy Ricch, and YG. Ironically, Nipsey Hussle is nominated for two awards this year. He’s nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song (for his track ‘Racks In The Middle’) and also Best Rap/Sung Performance for ‘Higher.’

Most of the artists honoring him have also scored nominations! DJ Khaled is nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance with Nipsey (because it’s from his album Father of Asahd).

Kirk Franklin, already present with 14 GRAMMY awards, is nominated for Best Gospel Performance/Song (for his track ‘Love Theory’). He has also scored a nomination for Best Gospel Album (Long Live Love).

John Legend, a winner of ten GRAMMY awards, is also nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance for DJ Khaled’s track ‘Higher.’ His album A Legendary Christmas has also been picked for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

We have two artists who are first-time GRAMMY nominees: Meek Mill and Roddy Ricch. Meek Mill has earned his first nomination for Best Rap Album (Championships). Roddy Ricch earned nominations for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for his track ‘Racks In The Middle.’ For Best Rap/Sung Performance, ‘Ballin’ is one of the nominees as well.

Don’t Miss It!

Nipsey Hussle’s tribute will be memorable and touching to all, and we can’t wait to hear what these talented musicians sound like onstage together. Be sure to watch The 62nd Annual GRAMMY Awards live on CBS this Sunday at 8:00 p.m. EST/5:00 p.m. PT.
