Oh, where should we even start on why you should stan 5SOS? And with only 5 reasons? We have so many more, but let’s just start with 5 because it’s like the 5 in 5SOS. This band is, in one word, impactful. We’re sure once you read our 5 reasons why you should stan 5SOS that you’ll become a new 5SOS stan, or just be reminded why you love the boys.
The admirable band consists of lead singer/guitarist Luke Hemmings, lead guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin. They can be described in so many good words, but we don’t have the time for that. So, for now, here are 5 reasons why you should stan 5SOS.
1. They Have The Best Personalities
Each member of 5SOS has an amazing personality and the 5SOSFam loves it when they shine. If you’ve ever watched one of their interviews (if you haven’t — go watch one now please), then you know they can make you laugh. The guys are serious about their music but when it comes to a lot of other things, you can see them being goofy and making jokes. And a few years ago when they seriously scaled a building in superhero costumes? Hard to believe it wasn’t just a fever dream, and we love to look back at it and realize that we stan the best band. A band that’s not afraid to be themselves.
Although we see the goofy side a lot, so often you can see them showing growth in who they are and who they want to be. And that makes a lot of fans feel like they can do the same, become who they want to be.
2. They Give Back
This is the part where we get to talk about how generous and kind people the men of 5SOS are. They give back to their fans in so many ways and it would be so easy to highlight all of it, but, let’s not get carried away.
Last May, 5SOS announced they had created a charity called Friends Of Friends. They sell merch and put on shows, and the proceeds go toward select worthy causes and charities. “Created to bring people together to celebrate the art, music, and culture that we love and that we hope you love too; focused on making a positive impact in the community and the world around us.”
And, FOF isn’t the only way 5SOS gives back to their fans. Even unknowingly, just being who they are has changed many of their fans’ lives. That’s probably the most impactful thing a band can do, and they’re still doing it. With their inspiring words and their kind personalities, they proved that “Real bands save fans, real fans save bands.”
3. They Engage With Their Fans
Whether it’s just simply replying to a few fans on twitter or how kind they are when meeting fans, 5SOS is always talking with their fans. Not just talking about news going on with the band, they also support people who get tattoos, do edits, make-up looks, etc.
They always try to interact with their fans and let them know what’s going on in their lives, and most bands don’t do that much. 5SOS doesn’t have to, but they do and it makes their fans so happy. Sometimes it’s just a quick update from the band account, or it’s a heartfelt video from one of the members. They take the time to thank their fans and tell them they love them, and that’s something amazing.
4. They Put Themselves Into Their Music & Lyrics
If you’ve heard their music, you know what we’re talking about. The songs off each album reflect who they are and what they were going through at the time, and it relates to a lot of us. Their self-titled debut album was so fun and innocent, just about having a good time. Sounds Good Feels Good came along and it was a lot more about mental health and growing up, realizing things about the world. And it was honestly an album that saved some of their fans. Youngblood included heartbreak, the way they were living, and it was the most vulnerable they’ve been. Soon, we’ll have their fourth album. If you’re not a stan already, you should become one, because this is going to be their best era.
Some of their most recent songs include lyrics that fans truly love, lyrics that are different than what the band has done before. For example, in their song ‘TEETH’ they sing, “some days, you’re the best thing in my life/sometimes when I look at you, I see my wife.” The way Luke sings “wife” live is already a good reason to hear them live. And not only is the vocals in the song amazing, but we can also thank Calum for the amazing bass line. Then there’s Ashton’s drumming and Michael’s guitar, making the song so incredible. We could go on forever.
5. They Put On The Best Live Shows
We saved one of the best reasons for last. If you ever get the chance to see 5SOS live, take it. They put on a show with so much energy and passion, singing and playing their instruments while having the time of their lives themselves. Each member also takes a little bit of time in between some songs to engage with the crowd. Whether it be some inspiring and heartfelt words (usually from Ashton), maybe reminiscing over what they’ve done, telling the crowd to stand up because he sees people sitting (looking at you Michael), 5SOS want their fans to have the best day ever at their concerts, and they accomplish that.
Many fans wait for the day when they see 5SOS in concert the first time. They get to hear the songs that mean the world to them live, the songs that they’re connected to. The songs that connect them to 5SOS. When 5SOS performs your favorite song live, and you’re in the crowd, it’s unlike anything else.
If you don’t stan 5SOS yet, maybe consider it. You might just find a band that will become so important to you — just as they’ve become so important to the 5SOSFam. They’re the very definition of what it means to be great artists, and they just keep getting better. If we were you, we’d check them out as soon as possible.
