Brooklyn rapper Smoove’L just inked a new deal with Interscope Records. He grew up in Bedford Stuyvesant which is also home to legends like Notorious B.I.G. and Jay Z.
His first single under the new partnership ‘Palm Angels’ premiered on Complex January 24, 2020.
As an ode to his favorite clothing brand Palm Angel, we’re loving the up tempo beat paired with his raunchy lyrics!
The Interscope deal comes as no shock as the 19 year old rapper ended 2019 with millions of streams on his SoundCloud page.
Here is his impressive resume!
Nicole Wyskoarko, EVP of Urban Operations at Interscope Records says, “Smoove’L’s talent and versatility as an artist are immeasurable, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our Interscope family. We’re excited about Smoove’s trajectory and look forward to working alongside Smoove’ and his Run Music team as we collectively expand the reach of his music.”
Baroline Diaz, Sr. Director A&R at Interscope Records adds “I first met Smoove’L in a downtown studio last November and his energy was contagious. His versatile sound merges the melodic and lyrical elements that embody the drill sound taking over the New York scene. I wanted to sign him immediately.”
Adding more to his resume, Complex included him on its list of Rappers To Watch 2020.
“The way Smoove’ moves between speed-fueled bars of street hustles to melodic lines about the girl he wants, signals maturity and mastery of his artistry. He’s a rapper’s rapper with mainstream appeal, offering technical flourishes for the rap heads and sticky choruses for radio-friendly listeners.”
Smoove’L has his say on the reviews
Smoove’L is well known on the drill scene, however the Brooklyn native doesn’t consider himself a drill rapper. During an interview with Complex, he states,
“I’m not a drill rapper,” he says. “I would never want to be labeled that. I’m an artist. Before I jumped on a drill beat, I made other songs, other types of songs. I just started trying to get to what my city wanted. Then I brought my own style to it.”
‘Palm Angels’ is available on all streaming services.
After a breakthrough in 2019 we can’t wait to see what 2020 brings for Smoove’L.
