Must Watch Movies on Valentine’s Day

There’s a lot of pressure to plan the perfect Valentine’s Day date with your significant other. There’s even more pressure to have a date for Valentine’s Day. Honestly, we think all that pressure is unnecessary! All of us here at The Honey POP would rather have a quiet night in watching our favorite movies instead of being on awkward first dates or waiting hours to get a table at a restaurant.

Lucky for you, The Honey POP has compiled a list for all our favorite movies to watch on Valentine’s Day. Don’t worry, we promise it’s not all rom coms. There’s a little something for everyone on this list!

For the lovebirds and hopeless romantics…

The Notebook (2004)

This one is a classic. Who doesn’t love to watch Noah and Allie fall in love! Our favorite thing about this movie is that it really showcases the “in sickness and in health” sort of love vow.

Hopefully, you have this film in your DVD collection if not you’re going to have to buy/rent it online.

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Another timeless classic! This movie has given us some great one liners like “nobody puts Baby in a corner.” But, what really makes this movie worthy of being on our “Valentine’s Day Must Watch Movie” list is the dance scene in the final scene. Who knows, maybe you and your BAE will try to recreate it after you watch. Just please be careful!

We promise this one is worth buying instead of renting! You can get it on iTunes, Amazon, and YouTube.

Titanic (1997)

The classic to end all classics. We could watch Rose and Jack fall in love a million times and never get bored with it. Though, we still haven’t forgiven her for not sharing the door with Jack!

If you have Philo you’re in luck because you can watch Titanic for free. If not, well then you’re going to have to rent it elsewhere. Or, you could steal it from your parents’ DVD collection — you might even find it on VHS!

Crazy, Rich, Asians (2018)

This film might only be a few years old but it’s certainly a classic in our hearts. We absolutely love Rachel and Nick’s relationship and all the ups and downs they go through. One thing is for sure, the heart always knows what it wants.

Hulu has the exclusive streaming rights for Crazy Rich Asians so you can watch it there!

Hitch (2005)

The thing we love about Hitch is that he’s a professional “love doctor” and yet he can’t seem to land the woman of his dreams. Plus, Will Smith is the star and we’re a huge fan of his!

If Hitch is the film you chose to watch, you can find it streaming on Netflix.

For the teens and young adults dreaming of love…

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)

This is one of our favorite movies so we had to include it on the list. Lucky for us the sequel, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, comes out on February 12th so we’ll have double the Lara Jean/Peter love story to watch on Valentine’s Day.

You can watch both films on Netflix.

A Cinderella Story (2004)

There’s been a handful of Cinderella inspired but A Cinderella Story is definitely our favorite version. Not only does it put a cute twist on a timeless classic, it’s given us some of the best quotes ever.

Lucky for us, A Cinderella Story is streaming on Netflix!

Love, Simon (2018)

So, we admit, there’s a lot of straight, white love stories on this list. Love, Simon not only is an adorable movie but it also brings some much needed diversity to the romantic comedy world. We highly recommend you watch this one even if you’re not a teen or young adult!

You’re Hulu account will come in handy again with this film because it’s streaming there!

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Even though the film is called 10 Things I Hate About You, we can’t even list one thing we hate about this movie. It’s just that great! Everyone has the film they refer to as Heath Ledger’s iconic role and TBH this might be ours!

You can watch this film on Disney+.

For the heartbroken who want to believe in love again…

500 Days of Summer (2009)

You either love this movie or you hate. Some find hopeless romantic Tom endearing while others see him a white boy chasing after his Manic Pixie Dream Girl. If you and BAE haven’t seen it before, it’s definitely worth the watch … just don’t let it get between you and your relationship!

Unless you already own this film, you’re going to have to rent it or purchase it digitally. iTunes, Amazon, and YouTube all have it available for you!

Begin Again (2013)

This film is underrated if you ask us which is why we’re including it on our movies to watch on Valentine’s Day list. It’s definitely fitting for those of us who are heartbroken/lonely who desperately want to be in love. It has an amazing soundtrack and it also stars Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Adam Levine!

Begin Again is available to watch on iTunes and Amazon Prime!

Love and Basketball (2000)

We love Love and Basketball because of the way it shows a relationship and how it can develop and change. Thankfully Monica and Quincy were endgame. We might not all get to marry our high school sweetheart but we sure can live vicariously through them!

This is another title that can be found on iTunes, Amazon, and Youtube.

Someone Great (2019)

Someone Great is definitely the movie for those of us who are recovering from a heartbreak. One of the things we love most about this film is that it proves that as long as you’ve got amazing friends by your side you can get through anything. Platonic love is real love and don’t you ever forget it!

Stream this film on Netflix!

For the anti-Valentine’s Day crowd…

My Bloody Valentine (1981)

The only thing Valentine-y about this film is the fact that it takes place on Valentine’s Day. If you’re a fan of slasher films than this is definitely the movie for your Valentine’s Day movie date night.

If you have Crackle you’re in luck because you can watch the film there!

Gone Girl (2014)

So Gone Girl is probably one of the farthest things from a romantic Valentine’s Day movie, but sometimes you just need a good suspenseful mystery in your life! This one is certainly our favorite!

Unless you already own this film, you’re going to have to rent it or purchase it digitally. iTunes, Amazon, and Youtube all have it available for you!

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)

This film is definitely not your typical love story which is why we love it so much. Maybe you’re in the mood for romance but not a traditional type of romance story. This film is totally for you!

Netflix is the way to go if you want to watch this film!

And you’re in luck because Hulu has this film streaming now!

For the family…

How to Train Your Dragon (2010)

This movie isn’t a love story per say but it is a story about love! We for one love the relationship Hiccup and Toothless have and we’re sure you’re kiddos will too!

Unless you own this film, you’re gonna have to purchase it digitally from one of the sites we’ve mentioned above.

Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Really, any Disney Princess movie would fill the Valentine’s Day movie checklist but our favorite has to be Beauty and the Beast. After all it has a little bit of everything … “far off places, daring sword fights, and a prince in disguise!”

You can stream this film and several other Princess titles on Disney+.

The Princess Bride (1987)

This film is another cult classic that is worth the watch. Like Beauty and the Beast, this film has something for everyone! The kiddos (and adults) will love it!

This is another title that is available on Philo.

Gnomeo and Juliet (2011)

Everyone knows Romeo and Juliet have an epic love story, but it’s not really kid friendly. Instead, consider watching Gnomeo and Juliet with the kids on Valentine’s Day. We promise it’s adorable!

Hulu is where to go to watch this film!

For those who just want to celebrate the day…

Valentine’s Day

If you’re not really in the mood to watch movies but feel you should well then Valentine’s Day is the perfect film for you. After all, it is called Valentine’s Day! We love this movie because it showcases a bunch of different love stories and well, we had to include it on our must watch Valentine’s Day movies list.

You can watch this film on Hulu.
