Fresh Music Friday: Louis Tomlinson, Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, and MORE!

Fresh Music Friday

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday, where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

‘Walls’ – Louis Tomlinson

It’s been a long time coming, and now after four years in the making, Louis Tomlinson has released his highly anticipated debut album Walls. The Yorkshire-born lad’s first full-length project lets fans witness the more vulnerable and emotional side of Louis, who has always been known for his strength and comedic front. At the same time, the album also is a great reference to Tomlinson’s contribution to One Direction’s sound and where the rockier vibes came from in the later albums

Walls is an excellent showcase of the artists and genres which influences Louis as a musician, with a lot of Oasis resemblance and the more “cooler” artists from the Brit Pop scene that he grew up with. There’s a great collection of songs which sing about love (the rocky ‘Kill My Mind’ and bouncy ‘Perfect Now’), loss (‘Two of Us’ – a tribute to his late mother) and even songs which a lot of fans find hope in (the reassuring ‘Don’t Let it Break Your Heart’ and ‘Perfect Now’ which could be seen as ‘Little Things’s’ big sister). Walls is an amazing insight to Louis as an artist and as a person and is an incredible body of work despite the challenges he faced on his journey to creating the album – and we love every second of it.

‘Anyone’ – Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato made her emotional return to the music scene this week at The GRAMMYs, releasing her comeback single just hours before her performance at music’s biggest night. The solemn track is full of raw emotions and searing pain that can be heard prominently in her vocals. Accompanied just by a piano, the heartbreaking ballad sings about Demi’s struggles that she penned just days before her accidental overdose in 2018. ‘Anyone’ is truly a remarkable example of turning pain into art, and though the song has a tragic background, as a coping mechanism, it has a stunning yet bittersweet outcome.

‘Get Me’ – Justin Bieber featuring Kehlani

Justin is continuing ‘Bieber 2020’ strong with his second single in less than a month, featuring the R&B queen Kehlani. Hot on the heels of his comeback single ‘Yummy’, ‘Get Me’ is full of late 90’s R&B vibes that gush over finding someone in life who you can truly connect with. Bieber had previously stated that he has always wanted to create more R&B music rather than straight-up pop, perhaps this is the beginning of a new sound for Biebs in which he finally gets to create the music he’s been longing to for some time.

‘Only The Young’ – Taylor Swift

Queen Taylor Swift is back with yet another fierce track. ‘Only The Young’ is featured in the singers documentary Miss Americana, which is available to stream on Netflix. The song is a catchy pop number that will have you dancing along to the beat, but don’t let that fool you because this song has some of the most powerful lyrics the pop superstar has ever written in her career. On the track, Taylor sings about her stance on politics and gun violence. The pop superstar never disappoints when it comes to her music, and with this latest release, we are even more stoked to see what else the pop star has up her sleeve for us.

‘Physical’ – Dua Lipa

On the verge of her upcoming album Future NostalgiaDua Lipa is back with another banger for us in what can only be summed up by the record’s title. ‘Physical’ is a synth-pop bop that gives off the futuristic vibes we were often met with back a few decades ago, which gives the juxtaposition of the evocative melody. With its catchy lyrics and hooky chorus, this club-ready track is oozing with disco vibes sure to lure you to the dance floor to strut your stuff like no-one’s business and is a vibe we are manifesting in 2020.

‘Hurt By You’ – Donna Missal

Donna Missal brings her sultry vocals to this week’s Fresh Music Friday. Adding her unique vocals over the folk-inspired guitar beat offers us a fresh sound not common in the music industry. ‘Hurt By You’ isn’t a typical breakup song and instead is about how relieving it can be to let go, especially of toxic people and relationships. The singer has really gotten in tune with her raw emotions on this track, and it has definitely paid off as it is going to be a smash hit. Donna Missal is taking the music industry by storm, and we cannot wait to see what her future holds.

‘Loneliness For Love’- LovelyTheBand

LovelyTheBand has been stealing the hearts of their fans since 2016, and they’re back at it with this latest single. ‘Loneliness For Love’ is an alt-pop track with a smooth soft-rock beat about being so lonely that you try to feel the void with a genuine human connection, so you keep falling into the same pattern in every relationship. A deeply personal track that still has a level of dance-ability to it, making ‘Loneliness For Love’ the superior track.

‘Good In Goodbye’- Madison Beer

Miss Madison Beer is bringing the heat on this week’s Fresh Music Friday with her latest song and video, ‘Good In Goodbye.’ The pop star served up her latest track with a side of fierceness as she sings about leaving a toxic lover behind and how you should always look for the good in goodbye. It’s essentially the ultimate breakup anthem for this day in age, and we are loving the killer futuristic, video-game simulation type visuals in the music video. ‘Good In Goodbye’ is the first track released from Beer’s upcoming debut album, which we have no doubt is going to snatch our wig, and we are fully prepared for that.

‘Tonight’- Kesha

Coming in hot and ready to party on this weeks Fresh Music Friday, Kesha’s back in action with her latest hit ‘Tonight.’ The techno-dance track starts with a slow intro with Kesha’s smooth vocals accompanied by piano, then the beat drops and the singer’s usual up-tempo style springs forth, and breathes a little excitement into the song. It’s the opening track for her latest studio album, High Road, which is out now! This album has been a long time coming, and we are hyped to have new music from the pop star.

‘Money (R3HAB Remix)’- Lil Miquela

We’ve stated before just how much we adore Lil Miquela. Her track ‘Money’ dropped four months ago, and while we are obsessed with the songs punchy beat, and melodious lyrics, R3HAB has lent his DJ skills to produce a remix of the track, and that remix is absolute fire. His magic touch has added another element to the track we never knew we needed until it landed in our laps. The added beats send this song into dance-pop overdrive, so pop, drop and lock your way on over to add the song to your music library.

‘Leave It Alone’- Hayley Williams

‘Leave It Alone’ is the second single off Hayley’s solo album Petals For Armor, and is a track about grief and struggling with losing people you love. The smooth sound of the track is reminiscent of early Macy Gray, but it still has a hint of the alt-pop sound we’re used to hearing from William’s. We are thrilled with this new direction Hayley has taken with her solo career, and we look forward to hearing the rest of her album once it’s released!

‘Honest’- San Holo featuring Broods

San Holo and Broods working together?! The only way to describe this song is that it’s a smash! Right off the bat, ‘Honest’ invites you to dance immediately with its ambient beat that hooks you from the very first note. This song really packs a punch with the added mellow vocals of Broods’ Georgia Nott, and the power that this song has is unsurpassed by any other. BRB, we’re going to airdrop this single to everyone we know!
