If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It: 5 Reasons Why Diary Of A Future President Is So Important

If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It: 5 Reasons Why Diary Of A Future President Is So Important

Disney Plus has recently released their newest series, Diary Of A Future President. A family-friendly comedy that follows the back story of a future leader, as told through the diary of 12-year-old, Elena, who is the show’s protagonist and the lead. She tells the story of her journey through the ups and downs of middle school, which sets her on the path to becoming the president of the United States. Just in case you have no idea what we’re talking about, check out the trailer down below!

We are so thrilled over it. Not only because it’s already turning out to be an amazing show, but because of how substantially significant the show is to the younger generation, especially young Latinx girls.

You’re probably wondering what on earth we’re talking about, so we have put together a list of the 5 of the biggest reasons why Diary Of A Future President is so important.

1. It’s All About Diversity

Disney has drastically become more diverse over the past several years. And Diary Of A Future President has a hand in that by following a fictional Cuban-American family that is played by many Latinx actors. For example, Gina Rodriguez, who plays the future Elena, and is also an executive producer, is Puerto Rican, and Selenis Leyva, who plays Gabi, is Cuban-American.

“You must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul.” — Gusteau, Ratatouille

2. It Encourages People To Follow Their Dreams

Many young people don’t have a reliable support system when it comes to their dreams and aspirations, especially those that seem a little far-fetched. In Diary of A Future President, Elena has a really strong support system, not only from her friends and family but also herself, which shows viewers just how important it is to surround yourself with positivity and to always believe in yourself.

“You control your destiny — you don’t need magic to do it. And there are no magical shortcuts to solving your problems.” — Merida, Brave

3. Diverse Role Model Representation

This point kind of ties into the diverse casting we previously mentioned, and we can all agree that middle school is probably the most difficult time in a person’s entire educational career. That’s the age in which you are trying to find yourself and where you fit in among the rankings. Having such a diverse cast gives many young people inspiring role models that might feel more representative of them on a personal level, or at least someone more relatable.

“Our greatest natural resource is in the minds of our children” -Walt Disney

4. Showcases Fierce Dedication & Determination

Throughout the first season, Elena shows how her determination and dedication during her long road to becoming president, pays off. She never gives up on herself despite facing many hardships to get to where she is today, and she always believed she could do anything she set her mind to. She doesn’t try to pretend things are always smooth sailing and instead showcases how much hard work you have to put in to reach your dreams. That’s the kind of realness we desperately need to see more of in the future.

“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” — Christopher RobinWinnie the Pooh

5. It Fosters Belief and Acceptance In Change

The final reason Diary Of A Future President is so important is that it fosters a belief in accepting change and that change isn’t always a bad thing. Life throws you curve balls, it happens, but this show teaches you to embrace the change head-on. We hope that it will encourage young women to believe that they can be anything and never let life’s battles knock them down. Instead, embrace the hardships, grow from them, and power through.

“When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.” -Walt Disney

Diary Of A Future President is, overall, a hilarious family-friendly tv show, but underneath its surface, it’s so much more! What do you think of Disney Plus’ newest series? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @TheHoneyPop!
