We’re not catching any sleep around here because Lil Baby just dropped his brand-new music video for ‘Catch the Sun’, which was released by Motown Records and is featured on the Queen & Slim: Soundtrack. This is coming just in time for the movie’s release in theaters in the UK, and the video premiered for the first time through BET Hip-Hop, BET Jams, and the Viacom billboard in Times Square.
The music video parallels the on-screen romance of the movie’s title characters Queen & Slim and encapsulates the risky situation they experienced. Additionally, it creates a scene that feels completely surreal. Lil Baby takes us on a ride with him as he and his love interest hop in a car to escape the cops. The video transports us to a whole new place, one where it’s safe and sound and the sun never sets. Cam Busby, who directed the music video, also worked on Megan thee Stallion and VickeeLo’s music video ‘Ride or Die’, which is featured on the Queen & Slim soundtrack as well. He is also known for his work with Kodak Black and Wiz Khalifa.
“The Atlanta rapper Lil Baby offers a reflection that’s more meditative than his usual repertoire; on ‘Catch the Sun,’ he waxes poetic about romance, fatherhood, and his upbringing.”
Lil Baby received more than 10 billion global streams on Spotify just last year. 2019 proved to be his year because he was nominated for his first, yes that’s right first EVER Grammy award for his song ‘Drip Too Hard’ and even took home an award for Best New Artist at the BET Awards. To top it all off, he had not one, but three songs all reach #1 on urban radio, which helped cement him as a powerful figure in the rap industry.
Queen & Slim stars Oscar® nominee Daniel Kaluuya, (best known for his role in Get Out) and tells of a love story while highlighting the consequences of racism and violence. The film features the work of Emmy®-winning writer Lena Waithe and GRAMMY®-winning director Melina Matsoukas.
The songs portrayed in the film emphasize the diverse talent of several black artists through blending of a wide variety of genres. The movie soundtrack contains 16 songs and the movie score which was composed by Blood Orange. The soundtrack was nominated for a NAACP Image Award and features artists that include not only Lil Baby, but also Tiana Major9 & EARTHGANG, Lauryn Hill, Coast Contra featuring BJ The Chicago Kid and Syd, Vince Staples featuring 6lack X Mereba, Mike Jones, Roy Ayers, and many many more. The movie score is also included on the soundtrack and was composed by Blood Orange.
